Here is the shortlist for the main award: Segio Aguero (Man City) Joe Hart (Man City) Scott Parker (Tottenham) Robin van Persie (Arsenal Wayne Rooney (Man Utd) David Silva (Man City) Here is the shortlist for the young player award: Sergio Aguero (Man City) Gareth Bale (Tottenham) Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal) Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea) Kyle Walker (Tottenham) Danny Welbeck (Man Utd) It seems all the media's favourites are in there. Namely Spurs, City and United. Outrageous and shocking bias towards the Manc clubs IMO. To not have Juan Mata, Demba Ba, Jose Enrique or Tim Krul up for a nomination is pretty much as laughable as it gets. Newcastle level with Spurs yet can't even get a nomination. Liverpool Carling Cup Winners and in Final of FA Cup yet can't even get a nomination. IMO it should be POTY Robin Van Persie (Arsenal) David Silva (Manchester City) Juan Mata (Chelsea) Sergio Aguero(Manchester City) Tim Krul (Newcastle United) Demba Ba (Newcastle United) I'd have even put Sessegnon in there who for me has stood out several times for Sunderland and performed to a higher standard. But of course knocking in a few penalties which United cheat to get all of a sudden makes him "world class" again. Wayne Hennessey has been superb for Wolves and but for him they'd have probably been down by Christmas. Valencia would be in there had he started the season. Van Persie would win hands down. Young POTY Joe Allen (Swansea City) Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur) Alex-Oxlaide Chamberlain (Arsenal) James Mclean (Sunderland) Oriol Romeu (Chelsea) Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur) And for me Joe Allen would win that hands down
WTF...Rooney? Must be those 25 penalties he scored. Also I would say Yaya Toure also deserves to be nominated at least.
Very surprised Mata isn't nominated, Krul isn't nominated and Kompany isn't nominated yet Kyle Walker and Chamberlain are
It's not biased towards the Manc clubs they are far and away the 2 best in the league, the PL is now another SPL/La Liga tbh. For POTY 5 of them are obvious IMO, Parker questionable but can see why they've given it, Mata is inconsistent and Ba has scored much less than Rooney or RVP. Hart has been much better than Krul, and I don't know how you think Ba is more deserving of a place than Rooney. I don't really give a **** about young player, it seems right, maybe not Walker but am happy for him 'cos of QPR links, I don't know about Sturridge 'cos I see you lot criticise him quite a lot, but the media love him and he was playing very well in the first half of the season at least.
Lets not forget these are PFA awards so the nominations are the 6 people in each category who have got the most votes from there fellow professionals, and they still vote quite early in the year (February I think), and lets be honest your average footballer is probably easily led by the media! If Van Persie doesn't win then there is something clearly wrong with the system of voting, he is player of the year by a mile, young player is harder to call, but from the 6 nominated i'd go with Aguero.
But this is assessing the individual player not the team. I'd argue because of the quality of player it is far harder to score 20 goals a season for Newcastle than it is for United or City who create chances at free will. Mata hasn't been inconsistent, without him and Ramires we'd be comfortably bottom half material. Ba for me is much more deserving of a place than Rooney, we all know Rooney is a quality player, Ba was seen as a gamble and someone who would not be physically up for it, and a far lower percentage of his goals have been penalties. If Ba played in United's team I'm certain he'd get in the region of 30 goals a season
Ba is good but not amazing IMO, most of his goals are a bit 'easy', obviously he can score great goals e.g against United but Rooney's overall play is brilliant, the best player i've seen at Loftus Road this season, he's not even a goalscoring striker, his link up play is outstanding as well as his passing, by far the best English player, no one comes close.
I suppose it's a matter of opinion but we all agree the Manc clubs have the best players. Even though he was poor by his standards, Silva is the best player I have seen live all season, closely followed by Mata, in terms of ingenuity and intelligence the two of them are unrivalled. I've not seen Ba live so can't say
This season we've had a go-stop-go scenario. With Robbie we're turning up the heat , but unfortunately too late to figure in these season long assessments! The nominees seem about right to me in spite of the fact none of our lads figured! I'm focusing more now on the prizes we can get on the pitch than who the luvvies will decide who comes away with this award!
You can't compare Demba ba to Wayne Rooney you dope. Ba is an excellent striker, Rooney is a supreme footballer. That said, at £7m...I'd have Ba for us next season
Most neutrals would agree with us that Mata and Ba are worthy of nominations, even Arsenal fans - one of our rivals. When it comes to the game itself, we can all appreciate talent, not saying Rooney doesn't have it, but his performances this season have not been extraordinary by any means, apart from game against Arsenal reserves, but the way in which Ba made the leagues best CB look like a clown was worthy of an accolade itself. Rooney hasn't even been United's best player.
Ramires for me. Unbelievable how one of the countries top midfielders could be left out for a bullying thug like Parker.
Bale, Welbeck, Sturridge and Walker don't deserve to be on the list. Bale has to be the most overrated player I have seen in the last decade, Welbeck just isn't anything special, Sturridge is a selfish one man team player and Walker can't defend. But then again what can you expect?
Romeu 9 starts, Chamberlain 5, McClean 16. None of them have been exceptional enough to warrant an award when they've played half the games in a season or less. Throw in 3 of Hoilett, Sinclair, Caulker, Krul, Szczesny, Sturridge, Mata and maybe Dembele, instead. Dempsey, Toure and Kompany are all a bit unlucky to miss out of the seniors but Rooney's having a good season, I'm not sure why you're miffed that he got picked.
