Hi, Reading fan in peace. Dont know if any of you guys have came across this, reported in the Reading Chronicle that last night Reading manager Brian McDermott denied that Leicester had made a bid for Shane Long whilst talking to TalkSport. Link below:- http://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/s...tt-denies-leicester-bid-for-reading-fcs-long/
Yeah theres no concrete evidence that we have made a bid for him yet, but no doubt it will come at some point. They have turned down an £8m bid aparently from WHU, so im guessing that this will stretch out just as LONG as the Maynard thing did.
Reading rejected that bid of £5m + £3m add ons for Shane Long as it didnt meet the valuation and they dont want to sell to a side in the same league. We will have to wait and see if thats still the case in coming days however reading what Sven has been saying he doesnt seem to confident!
No. Reading want at least 7m in cash up front. They don't care who they sell to as long as they get the cash.
I have actually only just read that article and it is far more vague than I had envisioned reading through some other comments. He has said he hasn't received a bid from Leicester for £7.5m - he doesn't specific that they haven't received any offer from City which you'd assume he would have just mentioned if this were the case. When he refers to 50/50, considering there has been no offer near this bid from a Premiership club and no recent activity from one, I'd suggest these odds are his general view on whether he will stay or go irrelavant of the purchasing club. It basically reads that if they get a bid of around £7.5m from a Premiership club he is gone, and if it's from Leicester it will be up to the board (It's up to them whether he goes to a prem club as well, so seems a bit of a redundant thing to say). If the board is accepting a £7.5m offer from a Premiership outfit, they are bound to accept the same offer from any club surely, I can't think of any logical reason why they wouldn't?? I think the only issues will be how high Sven is willing to go, and if the player would prefer to hold out for a Premiership offer in Jan/Summer (Obviously this is then depedent upon how he performs in the forthcoming months). I guess his inclusion or Omission from the squad at the weekend will give us a better idea.
Brian McDermott has done an interview talking about the reception Long will get from the fans on Saturday so unless an offer is accepted i would expect him to play. I think the fact is McDermott doesnt wish to sell to any team in this league and he has stated that, whether the board will undermine him only time will tell.

I also expect that a bid will go in at some point, Shane is the best striker in the league imo just hope he stays with us 1 more year but now resigned to losing him. What about Millsy? Whats your view on him!,?
Mills certainly has courage - He picked up two head injuries against Real Madrid by being committed - He's clearly a great talent and I have high hopes he and his team mates will take us to the promised land
We've only seen him in a couple of friendlies of course, but in those I think he's looked impressive. He's certainly committed (maybe too committed at times!) and his positioning is top class, he's often in the right place at the right time which is very important for a defender. A commanding and vocal presence as well. I can see what you guys were saying about him being a bit of a hothead though. I don't think he's the best passer either but we didn't buy him for that, we've got Bamba to play the elegant footballer and Mills to be the no-nonsense one. I was impressed when he was playing for you anyway, so I was always pleased that we signed him.
