Is fair enough but a bit of a non-story, more just filling up some column inches. The club have shelled out a fortune (by their standards), and the club expects survival at worst. Having given CH the rule of the roost for transfers and the daily running of the team, he is the one to ultimately answer for anything less but I am sure he already knew that a long time ago
I think most fans and DM realise that the Arsenal game is going to be majorly tough and we will likely lose. The Cardiff game will be the key one, if we lose that CH will be in a pressured situation for sure.
The only thing I read there that was surprising was the odds on RvW to be league top scorer are only 7/4!
What a ridiculous head line: "Hughton told to accept pressure"! Especially when it simply isn't what Bowkett said. What he said is what Chris Hughton himself has said many times "It goes with the territory". Has CH gone to Bowkett asking for tranquillisers and saying "Help me, I'm under pressure"?
Well, if you were to read (which you don't) the lamest excuse for a tabloid "newspaper", the Daily Star, you'll learn that "Bowkett FIRES WARNING at Chris Hughton" http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/fo...n-Bowkett-fires-warning-at-boss-Chris-Hughton Gutter journalism personified
yep, non-story all round. the press jump on any little comment if they feel they can put their own slant on it to make it sound 'interesting'
It is all about selling papers and something bland and unexciting just won't cut it. We're all doomed is much better and shifts a few more off the counter. The worse the paper, the more outrageous the headline.
meanwhile, mick mccarthy has suddenly crept in to be some bookies favourite for the ireland job in the past couple of hours. maybe martin o'neill wasn't the shoe-in we all thought he was...
I honestly can't see any reason why Mick would take the Ireland job right now. He's said he'd like another go at it sometime, but he's doing a good job at Portman Road and he must have realised the size of the task and relished the challenge when he took it on. Added to which he has JWM's stamp of approval and unstinting backing. Mick surely wouldn't let him down .
Incidentally: has saying "There'll be no knee-jerk reaction" become a knee-jerk reaction? Answers on a postcard to the Editor at the Daily Star.
au contraire. i stuck a wad of cash on him when trap left because i think he was always the logical choice and i think he's made it very clear that he wants it again and he's talked about the vacancy. i think the whispers from the portaloo have long suggested he's not overly happy down there, despite doing, in my opinion, a very, very good job.
Well my hearing is so bad I can't hear any whispers nowadays, so I must bow to what you say Superman. Also I'd forgotten that I did read somewhere that Mick might have a clause in his contract related to this precise possibility -- in which case he would obviously have taken on the Ipswich job with a specific reservation in that regard. Shame for Ipswich if he does go.
that clause certainly existed but according to mccarthy himself, that clause ran out during the summer. would definitely be a shame for ipswich if he did go - he's done well with imo, a weak squad and no money. he's a very accomplished manager at that level, one of the best. who knows - it could still be o'neill or a n other but my gut feeling said mccarthy at the start and it still does to be honest
Top stuff I've been suspicious for some time that JWM is in fact Mick's hype man I think the fact that the FAI have said they are in no hurry to appoint a manager has been the biggest concern to us... I don't think many football fans would expect Mick would leave us midway through a season (which is why the FAI comment seems to stick) I think if they were to wait until next June to see who's around and Mick comes toward the top of the list then he'd leave us to go back there... I also think there may be some very good managers out of work so who knows what will happen... But if he continues to keep us progressing after the disastrous past few years then I'll be happy that Mick will be leaving us in pretty good shape for someone to be able to come in and take us forward
