Hess has said that we will not be offering Jason Brown a contract http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kentonline/sport/2011/july/7/andy_hessenthaler.aspx Hess is quoted as saying "this twitter sittuation doesn't do players an favours and I think it's a little bit of an insult to this football club for him to say he would drop down To come to us" Sorry but I disagree that it's an insult I see it more of a compliment to the club that he would drop from premier league to league 2 to Play for us, not just anyone but us. It's a shame but I don't think it was ever really going to happen. The money can be used else where, particularly for another goal scorer. I just hope that this doesn't come back to haunt us and we concede cheap goals. UTG
It is insulting, touting you wears on Twitter like a lady of the night! Seriously though there are routes to go down, and if JB was serious about joining us he should have contacted the club or Hess directly
Jason was asked a question by a Gills fan about the possibility of returning. Using the Internet to get a job is nothing new. Millions do it every day. Spiller posted a video on you tube, as did Michael Owen and Owen Hargreaves is now using it to prove his fitness. When we played Blackburn in the cup you could see he was moved by the chants of "your Gills and you know you are" OK I know he was no more than a bench player for Blackburn but he must have learnt from the likes of Friedel and Robinson and his experience could be invaluable. We currently have a player from 2 leagues below us, and a kid. And do we even have a Goal keeping coach????
its a shame yes but not a disater, the more important thing that has been let slip is money to spend on a goal scorer. looks like we are trying to bring in another forward then.
Putting JB to one side I think it's an interesting debate on it's own, in regards to twitter, message boards and any other communication. So if I'm looking for a new job and I tell all my family & friends, who in turn naturally gossip to people, what is the difference in using twitter which in turn also tell's people who want to keep in touch with such person. I have seen many a debate about message boards and how some frown disapproval on them, yet those same people read those message boards. I'm not saying what JB did was right, I'm just asking where is that line drawn and is it right and proper to use freely such media in this way for should I say...gossip?
At the end of the day, what ever happens to Jason I wish him the best. I also think it's an opportunity missed.
gotta move with the times ppl and Twitter is a way of communicating these days. Dont think we should be wasting what would probably be a lot of money on wages when we are in desperate need of another striker! If Kedwell gets injured early on then we are in trouble relying on youngsters for goals!
To me, while twitter is a useful tool for staying intouch with friends family etc. (yes I do use it (@Nstarkey (follow me!!!!)) I feel it is too impersonal to use for business. I am noit entirely sure what the situation with JB is but if he was interested in expressly joining us he should have contacted the club directly rather than using twitter. In his defencethough it could just have been an off the cuff comment which was taken out of all propotions, but he should have been aware this could happen
