Harry Redknapp reckons the cheer he hopes to raise won’t be festive – it will be when the team gets promoted to the Premier League in May.

The QPR boss has banned a players’ Christmas party wary of the effect it has on a club going for the Prem pot of gold as the matches stack up.

Rs take on Leicester at home tomorrow (Saturday) and in rapid succession, Nottingham Forest, Boxing Day, followed by Watford and Doncaster at home on New Year’s Day.

Santa can get lost insists the manager and swap his red kit for swimming togs in June if he wants to pay a visit.

“They’ve got all summer off when they’re well paid – they can do what they want then,” said Harry. “What do you want a Christmas party for?

“It’s the busiest time of the year. Every time players have a party they end up in the newspapers. “There’s always somebody who acts silly, and someone’s waiting to take a picture.

“It’s a busy time for us and we’ve got tough, tough games – Forest Leicester, Watford – we’ve got too much on our plate for parties.”

The xmas period could well be the difference between promotion and playoffs

Tough but necessary. One of the sacrifices they have to make.
