The South London Press are running an on line poll on whether Chris Powell should be given a new contract. Results so far 170- Yes 7 - No This got me thinking, what do you think the strength of the reaction would be if his contract is allowed to wind down and he leaves? Some have talked about boycotts and protests, but I can't see it.
If the Good Doctor was forced out I think we should all do a Poznan for the whole of the first home game except of course for you Nick and Ackers !
Poznan aside, I think he should have been given a new contract months ago, but he wasn't and I haven't a clue what's going on. The owners' policy of Omerta is a recipe for relegation, whoever the manager is. I can foresee a successful career as manager for The Doctor, not necessarily with us.
According to some, there is due diligence going on at the moment. This is just a theory but perhaps they are A) Waiting for new owners B) If new owners come in perhaps they want to bring in their own manager. This is just what someone has told me, there is no knowing if it is right. My own personal thoughts are that Powell should be given a new four year contract, that would really pee off the Powell haters.
AHLL dicky.....not sure where these "Powell haters" are you keep alluding to? "Powell Sceptics" for sure. His style of play is football's version of gruel. If CP's contract is not renewed, and I don't believe it should be, I will do a
Very popular as far as I'm concerned. Wrong question really. If you asked me to rate him as a manager I'd go around 6 or 7 out of ten, with a proviso that his learning curve seems to be more of a flat line. But as we drift into the same old territory I can't see anyone we could afford doung a better job with the squad we've got. No protests or Poznan (!?!) ifthe contract gets wound down but a lot of whingeing on here, and god help the directors if the replacement is another Pardew/Dowie type conehead. You have been warned.
You post on ITV, Vol work it out for yourself. How you can say you will be dancing if Powell loses his job is beyond me. Let us look at the facts, he got us promoted with 101 points, we finished ninth last season, which to me was punching way above our weight. He was not backed to better our squad in the Summer and had to get rid of a number of high earners. Ok he brought in Sordell, but a lot of people were very happy when he came in. Hindsight is a wonderful commodity to have. You criticise him for not playing champagne football, but we haven't got the players to play that way. We are in a dogfight and we need to scrap and fight for every point. It is not going to be pretty.
Don't agree there dick. Other clubs with similar or lesser budgets have played us off the park this season. Donny come to mind. So does Bournemouth and a couple of others. Its about the quality of the coaching and the quality of the tactics. You are never going to make Pritchard a Championship standard midfielder, Powell is being stubborn and beating our heads against a brick wall with that one. Another manager could get these players playing better football. Brentford play better football than us and they havent got a bidet to piss in. The Dowie/Pardew Aunt Sallie is a red herring to scare the gullible ! The 101 points in League One is irrelevant. We were Gulliver amongst the midgets in that league & Powell had the Jenkinson money to buy a whole new squad.
Yes, but Powell's style of football leaves the fans with empty bellies & asking for "more"....(entertainment)
Hardly a balanced view. The doctor has his failings alright, his record on loanees is abysmal, but his record on signing players on the cheap more than makes up for that. And like it or not our results are better when Pritchard plays, although if and when Solly returns he will probably be replaced by Wilson on the right. To say that another manger would do better without knowing who that manager would be is meaningless. CP's strong point is his man-management, and who knows whether we'd get a manager with the same man-management ability? Wolves and Blackburn are other clubs who have followed the Dowie/Reed/Pardew/Parky quick-change route without success. The Jenkinson money was about 1.2million and that was only enough to build a whole squad if it was spent wisely. You could also say that the Sheffield teams were Gullivers in Lilliput. One possibility for next season is we're back in L1 with a new manager and the Jordan Cousins money to spend. This would test out your theory pretty well!
I totally agree with FHB you can always say that constantly changing our Manager would change our fortunes but it ain't necessarily so. In fact some clubs who change their Manager are worst off, be careful what you wish for. Can I correct you on the Jenkinson money. The Jenkinson money only paid for PART of the rebuild the rest came out of the pocket of the owners. This was confirmed on one of the Q and A forums.
I'm game for that Got to go to the games though, dont want a boycott as the club needs money and cant afford people not to turn up.
