Thats FSG for you JWH would rather send Linda out for rent than part with any of his cash. Rumour is Gylfi has been offered £50k a week off Spurs which LFC wont match, if we cant handle £50k a week, we might as well f**kin give up now
Or perhaps the people involved don't think that he is worth what Spurs are reportedly offering. He did ok last season but not enough to convince me he would be worth that amount yet. I can't understand why people are getting upset about losing Gylfi like this, it's not like we were on the brink of signing Messi and then got outbid. He may turn out to be class but we've already wasted too much on people who might make a difference.
rumours are rumours.... but the fact is nobody can tell me if we are on the right road or a very wrong road. you can interpret things as; a) we've safe and secure owners who look after the long term security of the club and a young, ambitious and talented manager b) we've penny pinching owners interested in minimum investment for maximum return and a completely untried man at the helm who could be the biggest blunder in the clubs history. you guys can decide now, me i'll wait until i see how august comes and goes.
Holly crap someone talking sense on the internet. Remember the time and place people! Well said agree 100%
Jesus Christ guys! You moan if we over spend on ****e and then you moan when we play hard ball. you can't have it both ways. I heard 70k! Is a 22 year old who shone in a Swansea side worth 70k a week? No. £8m + 70k a week over a 5 year contract (lets use 5 years as an example as he is young) = £26m He has to try and make it in to the side ahead of Gerrard, Henderson, Aqualiani & Cole (all of which are either more experianced or settled at Liverpool) and if he fails (he was deemed not good enough to get in to the hoffenheim team, yet Ryan Babel is) then it's a waste of money and he'll have little re-sale value due to his already large wages Think People?!
Have to agree with MITO but really think that if he comes he comes: if he doesn't well so long its no real skin off our noses. As for the twitter statement by John Henry (if it was from JH) then it appears to be part of a PR campaign to win support for refurbishment at Anfield. OK that makes sense but it will need help and approval from the City Council and the local community. I really like the idea of far better facilities and better seating. I also love the idea of a once again mighty Kop.
That should surely be used as a reason not to offer this sort of money to players...??? We are not talking about £20k difference, we are talking about £5m! £50k per week over five years is £13m. £70k over five years is 18.2m
That's Quarter of a Downing!! PS... I think all transfer fees should be discussed in Downings - It sould be Liverpool's new currency
It makes sense doesn't it? You did well last summer getting rid of deadwood which was important but then there was a lot of money spent on expensive players who raised the wage again without improving the squad to the same extent. This has put the impetus back on to getting rid of your Maxis, Aquilanis, Coles, etc not so much because you can't afford them and new players but more because it's a waste of money keeping them. We didn't do much business over the last 18 months or so, not because we couldn't afford players but because you run the risk of adding to your players that are filling up the wage budget without contributing and those players can prove difficult to move on. Seems like the same here.
That would mean Siggy would cost us 1.6 Downings. (£8m fee only) But... Would mean that Siggy would cost us eighty billion Downings. (£8m fee only) I think you guys are leaving a little too much room for error...
Overall wages will need to go down for LFC to be sustainable. That is actually true of most Football professional football teams to be compliant of FFP or to not bankrupt their ownership. From what I've read it is a 50% difference in wages. As a management team one has to evaluate whether that is how they value the player in question from both a playing criteria as well as a revenue generation standpoint. Whether that is a £25K difference or a £5 difference is immaterial. From the Spurs standpoint, they are using Sigi as both a replacement player for Modric as well as a PR move and as a result may be worth the additional wages. From our standpoint we may have identified potential replacements from a mixture of youth, current squad or more affordable outside players. Football is truly a business just one that has a heredity and supported base of clients/fans. So in the words of Warren Buffet, Go GE!
If its only about money for him then let him go to spurs. At the end of the day we may have other targets who are as good/better with less of a wage demand. I thought he wanted to come because of Rodgers but apparently money is his god then goodbye. And it is only rumours!!
Exactly. OMG THEY AREN'T SPENDING £200M ON ONE PLAYER YANKS OUT YANKS OUT Sig probably isn't worth 50k a week. We couldn't offload N'Gog, Voronin, Degen etc for a reason. We'll struggle to offload £90k+ Cole. Give them time.
Transfer window hasn't even opened yet and I'm already sick of silly season. Seriously, wake me up when West Brom vs Liverpool kicks off
The reality is Spurs already offer a better sporting proposition, should they put more money on the table as well, LFC will have to look elsewhere.
Simple answer...**** Aquaman off even if we just give him to Oxfam...show Siggy the money...happy days
