“Oh, he’s a big African forward, just like Didier Drogba…” No actually, no he’s not. That false perception of Wilfried Bony has been created by our incessant need to compare every foreign player with an equivalent who we’re more familiar with. Blame the Premier League for that, insular world that it now is. Bony should complete his move to Swansea today or tomorrow, and he’s an excellent addition to Michael Laudrup’s squad – a real statement of the club’s ambition. What the Ivorian isn’t, is a ‘back-to-goal, ball-holding, targetman’, conversely, though admittedly physically impressive, he’s actually probably more comfortable with the ball at his feet and more adept at finding space in the penalty-box rather than muscling his way through a forest of attending defenders. Swansea’s game is built around possession and controlling the temperament and rhythm of games, and the addition of Bony – given his off-the-ball intelligence and acceleration – will greatly improve their chance created per game ratio. Go to YouTube and watch any of his compilations: notice how often he scores relatively simple goals by out maneuvering his markets or going undetected by a defence; that’s the mark of a very intelligent footballer, and someone who has really sharp instincts in the offensive third. This isn’t a battering ram, this is a cultured goalscorer – Swansea have done extremely well with this, and while not as under-the-radar as last Summer’s Michu signing, the Ivorian is going to have a similar kind of impact. - Premier League Owl Bring it on I say, and let the battle commence!....................
He's is his own player, he like a Bony and that's it, comparing him with others is just for bored people who don't know what to say, ala football pundits !
