He'll be a good backup to Tiote if Smith goes but then again we also have Gosling... :S

Could be good back up player, never realised he was only 26.

I had heard that Pardew was looking to get shot of both Smith and Guthrie - looking to replace them with Ireland and Reo-Coker... <yikes>...

Good back-up/competition for Tiote IMO. Younger and better version of Smith. At least he's a ''PROPER'' DM/CM unlike Smith who was naturally a AM/ST/Winger but Ferguson changed him into a workaholic DM who looked decent at times but with age(30 now if I'm correct) he simply doesn't have enough pace, energy or footballing ability to play DM in the PL. Top-player at CC level though.. if only Pardew put some ''attacking balls'' into him(turn him back into a striker).

I feel sorry for Guthrie, he's got talent, a good eye for a pass and has good technique he hasn't got a look in since that injury kept him out since the start of this season (mainly because of players performances/tactics)

^ Totally agree. Maybe a short-loan term deal next season(assuming we get Coker/Ireland) with a newly promoted Championship team/Top Championship team might do him the world of good.
