http://www.lcfc.com/news/article/pearson-reflects-on-difficult-schmeichel-decision-2355096.aspx ... I suspect the very fact that he feels a need to explain it is as close as we'll ever get to him admitting he dropped a ******* .... “It’s not a case of Kasper’s back in and he’s an automatic choice, that’s not the case. But when you’re playing a counter-attacking style with pace like we did against Spurs, you need that extra distance with the distribution that Kasper has." Sorry Nige .... can't see how 'speed of distribution' outweighs ensuring you don't concede - especially against a side like Spurs on their own patch ... we would still have murdered their full backs Kasper or no ...
That's not a very good excuse to say the least. Goalkeeping decisions are one area I think he's really fouled up on this season. Hamer should never have been dropped, Schwarzer in all fairness looked possibly the best out the three once he'd had a couple of games, and the Schmeichel waltzes straight back into the team after months out. You'd never do that with an outfield player.
When Hamer was in goal, he was out of his depth and not good enough, when we played Schwarzer he was he was out of his depth and not good enough and we should have stuck with Hamer and now Schmeichel is out of his depth and not good enough should have stuck with Schwarzer . Be honest, none of us thought we would get anything from Spurs so was a good game for Schmeichel to get back in the groove for the winnable games. That it was a close game is testament to our lads so lets keep the faith.
He seems to have a completely different selection mentality when it comes to keepers. His defenders are consistently ****, yet never changed, but the goalkeepers seem to always be dropped when they're starting to play well.
To be fair Kasper has proven himself to be a very good goalkeeper and id say is the best of the 3. Yes, its a difficult decision, but forgetting the performance, before the game id have said that it is a bold one decision but one which puts out our best team.
He hasn't proven himself to be our best keeper this season. Hamer has 3 clean sheets (out of 5) and we have taken 10 points with him in the team and the defence looked more solid with him in goal. Being the best goalkeeper doesn't matter though it's who can kick the ball the furthest!!!!!!
Have to say I agree completely ... he has been shakey and indescisive ... the first goal against Spurs typified that - came about because the feint touch he got on the flick from the corner took it away from what would have been a routine headed clearance by the defender just beyond him ... and what's worse it was just enough to beat the defender and facilitate Kane's tap in ... a poor decision all in all ...
Also have to agree with WN and FF I don't think for one minute that Schmeichel his our best keeper! He flaps at crosses and corners, and does not command his area and the defence does not know what he his going to do. If he goes at the end of the season I for one will not be sorry. But to be honest I cannot see a premier club wanting him
Maybe someone would take him as back up but can't see him going anywhere in Premier League as first choice. Spending time with Schwarzer in training will hopefully help him progress the weaker areas in his game.
Kasper is the best keeper we have at the club and he could have done better with the first goal but apart from that he didn't do anything else wrong. He made a great save from Eriksen pushing his shot onto the post. If we go down we will need Kasper to stay and having him sit on the bench won't help our cause.
We'll have to agree to disagree about the best goalkeeper at the club. Everyone makes mistakes, no problem with that. Given the situation we are in I think the timing of KS's return was just wrong, another change to our defensive unit just complicates things at a time when we need cohesion and continuity.
Proud, we totally disagree about Kasper, You have a right to your opinion! but don't tell me that he his the best keeper at the club.
Think that's open to opinion Proud ... I've seen better displays from both Schwarzer and Hamer this season ...
Even Kasper would have played Schwarzer! http://www.lcfc.com/news/article/schmeichel-applauds-sensational-schwarzer-2358237.aspx
Nigel's decision to restore Kasper was correct. As I said at the time and stand by now, Kasper is the best keeper at the club and today proved that. He has been outstanding during our winning run
Absolutely stunning save to prevent Huth scoring an own goal, nice to see him start picking up a few clean sheets now! Anyone else see the parallels with our goal? Vardy did the right thing by following through, he looked twice as good as the much-lauded Danny Ings yesterday!
Lets not get on our high horses. Hindsight is 20/20. Hamer has always been solid when asked in the Prem this season. Kasper's form fluctuates and the safe decision would have been to rely on Hamer. Kasper has had a few decent games, one awful one and one great one since his return.
