if we never let him go we would be in the prem now and players like hobbs would have gone onto big things im sure
Is this the fantasy football thread - just got back from Crete, so not sure what I have stumbled upon here.
You probably would be better off if you had never let him go. And us Tigers would have likely not been in the Prem right now. As much as I hate the man, he certainly started to build something here, which Brucey certainly tweaked and perfected, to make us a consistent, hard working, good team.
... it's all about opinions ... so far mine would be that we would still be in the Championship because he has so far been outwitted when it's come to the crunch and Jack Hobbs would be what he is ... a competent centre half, nothing more ... and likely to get taken apart in the Prem unless he improves immensely ...
... which is rather like saying that watching congealed milk turning into yoghurt is marginally more interesting than watching paint drying ... each ultimately leaves you feeling rather unfulfilled ..
It's funny that it seems the majority of posters who frequent this board appreciate the work he did, but when I venture over to your board, I don't get that impression at all.
Most do appreciate what he did, but there's a still a vocal minority on our board who hated the way we played under him and couldn't wait to see the back of him.
Whilst it;s not really my place to try and summarise the Hull perspective (and I'm sure the Hull fans will feed in), I think Nigel Pearson is viewed as someone who came in and stabilised a club that had become a little shambolic under Nick Barmby - only to then leave in circumstances that left many Hull fans feeling that he had been 'disloyal' / 'greedy' (the latter because of the 'silly money' we seemed to be throwing at everything at the time). Many Hull fans were not overly in love with the style of football that NP brought and are of the view that if he had stayed they would probably not be where they are now - i.e they see Steve Bruce as the better manager and it is his influence that has taken them from 'stabilised' to 'promoted' wheras they have reservations whether Nigel Pearson could have achieved the 'next step'... over to you Tiggers.
Pretty much, although you said Barmby when you should've said Brown/Dowie or anyone of the previous regime, Barmbs came in after Nige left. It's a funny one, you could probably say we wouldn't be in the Premier League if we never had Nige but certainly wouldn't be in the Premier League if we still had Nige, which is why I suspect you'll eventually get rid and bring someone in with the ability to get you promoted.
Yes - should have made it a little clearer that I wasn't inferring that Barmby was necessarily responsible for the state of the club at the time ...
ed - he's a 'journeyman' centre-half ... he does the simple things OK, heading and tackling (unless he's faced by a skilled attacker e.g Tevez), but his distribution was / is distinctly average (and I'm being positive there) ... seems a very likeable lad too ... but he is never going to set the Premiership alight and I couldn't possibly see him as a future international at a time when English centre-halves are a distinctly mediocre bunch ...
