Nigel Pearson makes Bristol City transfer admission Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson has admitted to Bristol Live that he has had plenty of conversations with the club’s hierarchy over his plans for the upcoming January transfer window. The Robins are currently struggling in the Sky Bet Championship, with things having gone somewhat stale for the club of late as they seek to really kick on under the former Leicester City boss. This slump in form could well lead to the club taking action in the new year, with several players having been linked with exits and arrivals at Ashton Gate. Now Pearson has provided an update on his plans for the window, as he stated the following recently: “In terms of recruitment, recruitment is always about having a plan which is in place and there needs to be flexibility in terms of how that works. “You’ll be aware of the financial situation that football is in and we are not aloof from that situation. “I’ve said many times before that January is not the best window to operate in. “That’s not to say I’m ruling anything in or out. It will depend on circumstances, but that doesn’t mean we’re not planning ahead. We have meetings every week about it. “It’s never a situation where you go ‘Right, money’s available now, we’ll go and do that’.” It is as yet unclear as to what area of the team Bristol City may look to strengthen, but it is fair to assume that they will be active as they aim to move up the league standings. Meanwhile the Robins will be back in league action on Boxing Day as they travel to Kenilworth Road to take on Luton Town. The Verdict It is sure to be an intriguing window for the Robins, with improvements clearly being needed in several areas of the squad. The failure to replace the goals of Famara Diedhiou is there for all to see, so potentially a new striker could be on their January wish list. Whilst the injury to Nathan Baker could cause them to dip into the market for an experienced stand in if Pearson feels it is required. It will however be something of a balancing game for the club, with it being likely that they may have to get rid of some players in order to bring new ones in. https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/nigel-pearson-makes-bristol-city-transfer-admission/
Basically from that statement we are none the wiser....“That’s not to say I’m ruling anything in or out." I still have no idea since the day he arrived, what style of football he's about...so the type of players he's after is anyone's guess!!
WELL ...... there is an opportunity to see what the club already has available within the confines of AG! If it was me, I would bring in a head coach, well assistant head coach with an attacking back ground, BEFORE BRINGING IN ANY PLAYERS! SL did get a balance of attack, midfield , defence when he put together DH/PS/KD. He , NP can of course off load 2 or 3 players in January. Realistically what are the chances of relegation? What are the chances of top 6? Relegation ........... Derby makes it easier in that only 2 are likely to join them. they are currently 17pts from Reading so need 6 straight wins and Reading to lose 6. both played 22. Reading could finish on 44pts Versus Peterbro played 23, will need to win 5 and Peterbro lose 5 , Derby has a better GD so that wont change. SO Derby could as things go, finish on 28pts ..... Peterbro on 38pts Versus Barnsley played 23 could finish on 28 pts but just 3 loses and a couple of draws could see Derby overhaul them! Barnsley have a reasonable squad and could improve in second half. SO RELEGATION looks unlikely!!!!! TIC TOP 6..... thats 3 wins versus 3 losses for getting above current top 5th/6th/7th/8th teams is it possible in next 3 games! right results a possibility to get into top 10 just a game [3pts away ] top 6th! Of course our old friend COVID IS A SERIOUS MITIGATING FACTOR! .. so spend in January? I would say NO, unless cheap as chips / free / loan / out of contract in summer and definetly better than we have now! We have to trust our academy players especially the forwards /strikers ... or what is the point of having them ... look back a couple decades ages of players that came through [ all teams ] playing at ages from 17 upwards . Teams in England have higher age averages? Top teams need a player bring in from abroad and mega bucks money paid into top teams filter out of country ... excess players move down the ladder! How can a player of 23 years be out on loan "getting some experience" .... usually a lower class of club, or grade of football?? No disrespect to these teams but if they were that good they wouldnt be so far down the pecking order, often struggling. I reckon our defence is reasonable [barring injuries] We have Simpson! PERMANENT SUB! ... just in case .... players like Pring /Dasilva and a couple of academy that could step up!!!! but wont risk it! MERRY CHRISTMAS
Bristol City (18th) - 'Club going through transition' Richard Hoskin, BBC Radio Bristol Bristol City's inconsistency means Nigel Pearson's reign at the club is yet to kick into gear. After a lengthy 17-game run without a home victory, results have finally started to pick up at Ashton Gate. But now they've registered just one point in their past five away matches heading into the festive period. Pearson told me last week that the club are going through "transition", adding "there's still considerable work to be done". The manager was given a three-year contract in the summer and it's going to take time for City to realistically challenge for the Premier League. January will be interesting - with finances tight in these tough times, players will probably have to leave the club in order to bring fresh blood in as Pearson looks to tackle the third-worst defensive record in the Championship. But there are positives heading into 2022. Behind the scenes City are blessed, with the squad settling into their impressive new training ground. And potential young stars like Alex Scott and Han-Noah Massengo are the future of the football club, assuming the club are able to resist inevitable interest in their services. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59756997
Why is that we continue to hear about our future and as yet have not seen any hope on that front? We left the 5 pillars behind in the dust, along with a lot of other great promises, but perhaps there's a new mandate coming our way soon in the New Year that will send us towards contentment. Yeah right!
I would doubt the phrase going through transition as a positive. more a neutral to negative at this moment in time. I know it is hindsight, or can be misconstrued as such but the booting out of the players at final whistle of last season was hasty. We knew we were short on players to get forward and score goals. [ previously done the cost effectiveness replacing certain players allowed to leave = negative gain! ] In his own words "didnt see enough of him to keep him he was injured!" for 1 player... and Fammy was always likely to pop in double figures and make a nuisance of himself as well being adept at helping out defence at times ..... Baker was a case in hand, came back with dont really want to leave happy to play with renegotiated contract. even keeping those 3 for a season would have allowed for a gain on wages saved.. unless of course the mates rates wages gobbled it all up! Eg: .. we buy a CF [ ?Goalscorer? ] for £8m+ so + fee's = £9m ish 3 year contract on 30k a week = circa £5m = £14m spent .. Kept Fammy for 1 year, option of +1 year on £25,000 per week = circa £2.5m [ 2 years ] .... just think we have CM out for a year ..ish, unproven was on a free? worst scenario we had 2 "no 9's" in case 1 was injured... and maybe a forward on 8 or 9 goals! even play 2 together with Weimann behind ... I think so far some not really good decisions have been made!!!
I truly believe that Nigel Pearson will leave Bristol City sooner rather than later because I don't think his heart is on board with a club well known for it's lack of ambition where it matters. The current squad is close to being found out that they are neither individually, or collectively, up to the difficult task at hand which may yet prove to be a struggle to stay in the Championship. Quite honestly I at least expected a dead cat bounce when Nigel arrived but sadly that was not seen and the results since his early days in charge haven't brought any relief for the supporters wanting something different than what they have been fed for years. For me the possible final verdict on his stewardship will come within the next 5 or 6 weeks when we will see the evidence of his footballing nous during the transfer window. We are all witnesses to what we need, as indeed we have been since time immemorial, but a succession of managers have never read from the same page and I am starting to wonder if NP has the desire and deep down ability to change the tune. I suggest that by mid-February it could be the time for the big decision to be made by the hierarchy but the thought of where we might go from there boggles the mind because I still think Nigel should be up to the task but I am having serious doubts. The big question must be about where the thoughts of our manager are right now and does he really believe he can change our fortunes?
or could it just be that we have had the right manager/s at various points and the foundations around them have been on sand and the walls of paper!
January will be a big deciding factor.NP clearly knows he has inherited a average bunch of players. I believe he has had reassurances from the powers the be or he would not be here. As said previously let’s see what Jan brings.
This may well be true, but this season, I think it's a very average league, probably the most average for about 4-5 years IMO. So the question still remains, how and why are other managers at other clubs with just as average squads doing better so far this season?
