please log in to view this image Is Nigel being arrogant or just stating it how it is with his "we're everyone's Cup Final philosophy"? Personally it seems a bit odd to keep highlighting that, almost as if he's using it as an excuse. What's your take?
If that is his opinion I respect him for it, it is very annoying being accused of being arrogant, when what it is all about, is that we have pride in our Club, we want them to be the best and they are well equipped to be the best, we have not quite reached the level that we expected for various well publicised reasons, it is surely not a crime to support and shout about your Club because they are good, is that arrogance? No one can deny that we have been a great side, all those years in the Premier must have stood for something, it is just a shame we have had a temporary fall from grace.
When teams play top clubs in their respective division of course they get up for it! Its the same in the Premiership, teams get up for it more against the likes of Chelsea/United In the Championship teams again get up for it when playing the likes of QPR and Cardiff. Its not arrogance, its the way it is! An example: Mau Utd Vs Crawley (admitedly not a league game) on paper United should have won 5-0, yet Crawley gave it that little bit more and came away with a 1-0 defeat. Im not saying that we are United but thats just how it is
I didn't think that that was the attitude that he was taking - I thought when he was talking about us having 14 cup finals he meant that every game is vitally important to us and that we need to treat every one as though it were a cup final. But if he did mean this, I guess in a way he is right, teams do raise their game against us because they know that we are one of the best teams in the league...
We are certainly the team to beat in this league that is true. Just as we and Leeds were last year. Just remember when ever we play any of the smaller clubs their gates go up, so we are revenue to them. They raise their game simply to make sure they get a result as the longer teams like us are in the division the longer they survive. So in a way you can understand why some teams are so hard to beat. NA Is right teams do raise their games whether you could call it their cup final is probably stretching it a bit. What do I know though........
No don't think Adkins is arrogant. He is a great character & amuses me with his words he forgets or confuses in his interviews. Just think he is honest.
Yes just an honest bloke. Most teams love the thought of playing at St Mary's & it is like a cup final to them. This isn't arrogant just a fact really.
When other small clubs sing songs about coming to St Mary's that shows how much of a cup final it is for them. Nigel is spot on.
A lot of the time he is also reminding us that we are human and will be in for a fight and that we can't win every game. Simply by saying that clubs treat us in that way, he is stating the obvious. Much the same as we raise our game when playing one of the big boys.
