    http://www.nufcblog.com/2012/12/28/newcastle-challenge-liverpool-for-french-center-back/?

There was a report in Le 10 Sport in France yesterday, that Newcastle have become interested in Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, the 6’2″ Valenciennes and French U21 defender.

The news is that Newcastle have been tracking the youngster for some time and are now keen to sign him, although Liverpool have also been tracking the player for a while now, and may have a head start on Newcastle.

Valenciennes are doing well in Ligue 1 this season and are currently in 6th place on 29 points, just 9 points behind league leading Paris Saint Germain.

Apparently for financial reasons his French club are looking to sell at least one of their players next month, although a loan in January through the end of the season is also not out of the question.

One reason Newcastle may be interested, is that the youngster has only eighteen months left on the three year contract he signed in 2011, and that was a year after he moved to Valenciennes from Rennes.

Newcastle must bring in new defenders next month, as our defense is again the Achilles heel of the side this season, and we have only three experienced center-backs available, and one of them – Steven Taylor – has been out a couple of months with another hamstring injury.

The report in Le 10 Sport suggests that Liverpool may be looking to buy the 21 year old in January, but then loan him back to Valenciennes for the rest of the season, and that’s apparently something the French club would be willing to do.

Isimat-Mirin’s value is said to be up to £4M, and that’s within Newcastle’s budget, although he will be one for the future if brought to Tyneside.

Isimat-Mirin made his debut for Valenciennes in 2010, and he has played 5 times for the France U20 side and 3 times for the U21 side – and he has appeared 68 times for his current club and scored 3 goals.

We need both if I'm honest, an experienced centre half and someone of this young lad's ilk.

If we're still operating the buy cheap sell high strategy, a young centre-back probably makes sense, some of them are very expensive mind.

There are some decent players out there, BBC sport have a report on the 50 hottest targets... I'm probably alone in this, but I'd love Dawson from spurs, and Dede or Douglas as well.

Simon Kjaer for me. You know what you get with Scandinavians. Wolfsburg are struggling too so it might not be as impossible as first appears.

Some brilliant center backs being suggested here, for price, Simon Kjaer or Douglas seem more realistic... Brazilian teams are good at extracting money from outgoing players and Dede could cost upto 15 million euros.

My theory about the over sexed nature of the Scandinavians is simple.... their beer is too ****ing expensive so they stop in for a shag (I've paid like £9 a pint in Copenhagen and £8 in Stockholm).
Their big outlay comes when they have to pay, like £100 for a night out to pull a bird in the first place.
I reckon stats will also show that divorce rates are low cos lads can't afford to go out on the pull.

    <laugh>
Ida "Hey Erik, let's go out and get a drink, like we used to?"
Erik "I haven't got enough money"
    Ida "Not ****ing again"
Erik "'Afraid so, knickers off wench!"

...Did I ever mention I'm massively in favour of lumping loads of tax on alcohol? :bandit:

"Stockholm syndrome is named after the Norrmalmstorg robbery of Kreditbanken at Norrmalmstorg in Stockholm, Sweden in which several bank employees were held hostage in a bank vault from August 23 to August 28, 1973. During this situation, the victims became emotionally attached to their captors, rejected assistance from government officials at one point and even defended them after they were freed from their six-day ordeal. The term "Stockholm syndrome" was coined by the criminologist and psychiatrist Nils Bejerot, who assisted the police during the robbery, and referred to the syndrome in a news broadcast. It was originally defined by psychiatrist Frank Ochberg to aid the management of hostage situations"

Aye they're a bit weird. And sexy.
