Nicky Mackay recieved a 10 day ban for his ride on Stars In Your Eyes in the 3.40 at Wolverhampton, a ban that would have been 14 days if the stewards hadnt discounted one of the smacks. The horse veered violently right off the turn in and Mackay done brilliantly to get the 1/2 fav home by a nose. I know rules are rules but surely common sense has to come into it when the whip is used to ensure horse and jockeys safety. What do you guys think? Is the ban fair?
Absolute joke, the horse was all over the place and needed serious correction on several occaisions. Would've got my vote for ride of the week - the horse did everything to throw the race away and it was only the strong ride that saw her win it by a nose.
Complete joke- 1st bend nearly shot in to the 7F pole and then was hanging violently ! How they can say saftey wasnt an issue is passed me! Winning was the last thing on his mind!
If safety was an issue he would have pulled it up and not gone for the whip. That said, I do feel for him, he did what he had to do to win the race and he wasn't harsh on the horse in my eyes. The rules are the rules though, and he did go over the limit.
Haven't seen the race so can't comment on that particular example. What I will say is, looking forward, I hope Cheltenham isn't tainted by these regulations and we see the right result in every race. Here's hoping
