After all the recent events, I thought it would be interesting to see how we rate our MD. I'm sitting on the fence, I am undecided so far.......
Doing a decent job from what I can see, obviously would rather have had the far more talented bullshit man or erik
I think telling a massive lie to the whole fan base of Hull City has justified some people's opinions on him. He's done a decent job in other aspects but coming out and being so deceitful to the fans of the Club is unforgivable.
he seems to have done a lot of good work for our club , dont think its right to hang him over what we perceive to be mistakes by his hand !
There's two scenarios, either West Brom withdrew from the deal, in which case Nick could do nothing, or the Allam's tried to change the deal at the last minute, in which case Nick could do nothing. How the **** can you lay blame at his door?
I have to agree with OLM, I think he has a very difficult job to do. Both SB and NT appear to handle the Allams quite well, which is not an easy task in it's self, I think Nick Barmby found out that you have to deal with them in a certain way, which I think being quite new to the job, he failed to master to his demise. I have done a lot of business over the years in Egypt and been there more than 200 times, they are nice people, but have their own way of doing business. I don't know NT, but he seems to have handled the transfer deals for the most part well, but I don't think he is to blame for what went on, it is either on the WBA side or the Allams.
He's done well behind the scenes, woking with Bruce and the Allams. It's unfortunate that the Long situation has been pinned on us. On the other hand, his communication with the fans has been awful, and the way he lied to us about the proposed name change wasn't very clever. His Daughter writing ****e on Twitter doesn't endear him to the fans either.
How do you know it wasn't his idea to change the deal? How do you know it isn't his idea to change the name of the Club or even that he disagrees with it? You said, until the Allams come out with a statement to the contrary you have no option but to believe WBA's version of events re. the Long debacle. Well until I hear reputably sourced evidence to the contrary or even an official statement from Thompson to the contrary the facts are the facts and he is either a liar or a fool.
He's not the manager, so does not select the targets and he's not the owner, so doesn't provide the funding, he plays no part in any deal, other than forwarding bids and sorting the paperwork. I've met Nick and spoken to him on several occasions, he is absolutely against any name change, he just has a job on his hands convincing the owner. As for the Long debacle, the Baggies have just slagged us off, either we respond, or what accept that their statement was accurate, what other possible explanation is there? You seriously think Assem is going to allow someone to say he couldn't fund a deal, if that statement was made up? Never in a million ****ing years.
What? We pay a Chief Executive £100,000 a year to be a glorified clerk? I don't think so. The Allams will set the budget and will be consulted when that needs to change, but other than suggesting it might be a good idea to source some players from the "Old Country" that will be the extent of it. I'll tell you what I think has gone on here......bad management. I think they agreed the fee but someone forgot to discuss the terms and in this situation it surely must be the buying sides responsibility to discuss terms. When the deal was finalised we mentioned for the first time that we wanted to pay a downpayment and a proportion in staged intervals. WBA said no thanks we want it all up front, we said no, they said **** off then. I accept what you say about the name change as I have never met the guy. But if what you say is true then they have seriously cut his legs off from under him and, in my view, made his position untenable. Most senior managers would surely have resigned for something as fundamental as basic trust. They've made him look a fool.
He's not a glorified clerk, Bruce selects the targets, Assem sanctions the deals and Thompson goes and sorts them. Your second paragraph is a reasonable scenario, but the wording of the Baggies statement suggests that it wasn't just the payment terms, but the amount being offered that changed - “Hull then informed us they could not finance the deal they had tabled and wanted to reduce it to a level that the club would never have accepted in the first place." It's all water under the bridge now, the deal has gone and we'll probably not know exactly what went on, as Nick, Assem and Ehab are currently not taking calls from the HDM or RH. I disagree with your last point, the MD should not lose his job die to the actions of the chairman, only his own actions should cost him his job and I believe the goalposts are constantly being moved. As I've said previously, I also want him on the inside, fighting for our name to remain unchanged.
Agreed. Unfortunately he is a mouthpiece for his boses. When they want anything stating give it to good old Nick he can take the flak.
His future media coverage needs to very carefully worded. If that's the case he's neither going to be able to confirm nor deny a lot of things in case the Allams have a change of heat.
