I'd just like to comment on how ,yet again ,Nick Barmby produced the goods for us when needed.

What a servant the fella has been.

TWF hang your head in shame.

    That is all.

This. I wonder if he should start alongside Koren. He would get more minutes, but then he is also very effective as an impact substitute

As much as I would like to see him start, I was proved wrong the other week, so, I think he, and NP, have proven that his job is as an impact sub. Also I think that his contribution is to gel the team as the body and soul of the others is flagging, towards the last third of the game.

I'd like to congratulate him on scoring from two yards.

Nah, he played well yesterday, fair play to the man. He's still not the type of player who'll get us to the Premiership though, is he? He's getting on a bit.

I think he could well do it for us again. Remember the last play-offs? Great finish yesterday!

To be fair it would have took somebody of the immense skill of James Harper to miss from there.

It was the way he nipped in and directed it so well. A great finish from an excellent pro.

Sometimes you can go too far in your praise. It was a tap in.

Which is more than what Jimmy Harper managed :emoticon-0120-doh: Dont give a **** if its a tap in or a 30 yard screamer, a goals a goal and they all count at the end of the day. You have to praise him though on being instrumental in the team picking up after he came on and bringing the best out of Koren.

Nick Barmby may be too old to play 90 minutes, but he's been the most talented player in the Hull City team for the past seven years and he remains our most talented player.

Anyone who can't see that knows **** all about football.

    Or studies maths. <whistle>

    I did.
He's only our most talented player because the clueless managerment fancied doing Ipswich a favour. He's been a good player for us, but has been the most talented player for the last seven years? Nah.

And how old were you seven years ago?

You probably couldn't see how good he was, as the railings were probably to high for you.

    13, work it out.

7 years we were at the KC, so railings wouldn't have been an issue if I was short, which I wasn't.

Wait, where is this thread going? A discussion about my height? I'll get it back on track for you moderator.

Barmby's not the most skillful player we've had in the last seven years, we've had Okocha, Geovanni and Bullard pass through to name a few. He was good, he puts in the occasional good (but severely overrated) performance in this season, but he's not exactly the future of the club is he?

You talk about overrated players and you've picked two there in Bullard and Okocha. I'd have Bullard back here if he put in the perfomances like what he's doing at Ipswich but when he did play for us this season he wasn't at all good. And as for Okocha, well, if the likes of Marney, Garcia, Ashbee and Hughes (all great in that season) all make more appearances than you, you're certainly not doing your job. Even Simon Walton was preferred by Browny to play in the midfield. And that takes the piss. More skillfull than Barmby, yes, better players for the cause, no. And that's what matters. We don't need trick ponys.

Barmby's work rate is infectious and he certainly tries his hardest. He's been a great servant for the club.

If we get to Wembley (massive if..) would you want Barmby involved even as a sub? of course you would.. he gives all the team belief and his footballing brain is a massive plus in our performances.. even at 37 he knew where to be to tap in the Fryatt cross..

add to this Nicky is a Hull lad, who's to say he won't emulate Deano??

you can be sure he will give his all in fighting to the last for City..

Wasn't Walton playing defensive midfield when he was here, and also responsible for Okocha missing a big chunk of the season thanks to trying to snap his legs in training?

Ah you're 20, same age as me then! I agree with your point that Barmby is not out most skillful player of the last 7 years, but he certainaly up there (think hillsborough away 2004 for example). The Barmby of 10-15 years ago would have been our most skillful player, however like you say Geo was probably our most skillful. But what Nicky lacks now in skill he makes up for in passion and commitment to the club and city, which is more than can be said for Jimmy Bullard. Sorry if this has now become like a red rag to a bull, but Jimmy hardly tore up any trees while he was here did he? Yes, he is a good player as we're seeing at Ipswich, but it wasn't that often he did it while he was here. And before you blame the Pearsons, criticisms of Bullards attitude were happening last season, so to scapegoat the Pearsons over it is slightly naive. I'd have loved the Bullard move to work out, but unlike Nicky, his heart wasn't in it and he wasn't playing to his full potential, so you'd be wasting a squad place by starting him.
