Sad to see that Nichelle Nichols has died aged 89, especially as I grew up watching repeats of Star Trek as a kid. Its hard to think now just how important a figure she was on TV in the 1960s. She was symbol of the civil rights movement in the US as a black woman in a prominent role as an officer on a TV show, took part in the first inter racial kiss seen on TV and worked for NASA as recruiter inspiring women and minorities to work for them. RIP Nichelle
