Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand says Manchester City fans have come "out of the woodwork".

City are a point behind Premier League leaders United with nine games to play.

Ferdinand, 33, told BBC Sport: "Walking around in town, you see more and more blue shirts than you probably ever would have seen over the last 10 years.

"But success sometimes brings people out of the woodwork. So fingers crossed we can delay that and make sure that we get this title sewn up this season."

there were a few of their ''fans'' at the game last night.

I've been to Old Trafford in important games before but the Etihad last night was louder than any.

Yet they cannot fill up their stadium for a crucial match.

Newcastle were getting bigger gates in the Championship during the 09/10 season than 95% of the top flight.

......Now that is a big club :)

How are United any different? Any club when it comes successful gets a load of plastics and glory hunters.

Mainly cos we had lots of supporters before we were successful. Like in 1974/75, when we were in the second division but with the highest average attendance in the country. The glory hunters just added to our massive fan base, they didn't create it <ok>

And even with City top of the league they still couldn't sell their stadium out consistently...
