Cheers GK. Just to the right at the back(out of picture)was the boys pen, it was more boisterous than the main kop.
My Dad can remember the boys pen being moved to the back of the Kop after there was an outbreak of orange peel throwing and after several warnings in the programme it was moved from front to back. I can remember them being like caged monkeys in there.
Never went in the boys pen. I was small for my age when I started going to the match so used to get in early so I could get in front of a barrier then spent most of the match standing on it to see. Only problem was every time the crowd surged forward I invented crowd surfing!
Lovely, I can't imagine it myself having been not born obviously. Its a right mix of heads in there isn't it. I wonder if the Beatles would ever be sung again at anfield, just for the craic like. It looks quite the experience but i suppose it was just normal to you guys. It must be kind of strange for you guys these days having seats and such.
I can remember going to the St Etienne game with my usual mates, we were all late teens at the time. and one of my mates who was an Everton fan came as someone had a spare ticket. We all went in T-shirts as usual, he turns up with T shirt, jumper and snorkel Parka on. Despite us telling him he he was going to sweat like a Nun in a brothel he insisted it was his usual match gear. Needless to say halfway through the first half he passed out as the Kop was full way past it's official capacity. He was passed down to the front over everyone's heads and had his pockets emptied and his coat nicked on the way down. The next day he said it was never that packed on the Gladys Street end at Goodison. That is probably the most exciting game I ever saw at Anfield, there were other games which stick in the memory such as the Spurs hammering, and the massacre of Stromogodset, but the St Etienne game was just brilliant for the end to end football and the way the scoring went
I've only seen vcr of it. the inter game with gerry byrne and the cup parade. wasn't it inter... stuff like that.
I went in both the boys pen and the Kop as a kid (not simultaneously you understand). I think I described in the early days of this board sitting on the crash barriers and being propelled onto the backs of those in front any time anything happened in the corners. Oh, and the ornamental fountain of piss coming down the steps at half time.
I was here as well mate. Without doubt the greatest atmosphere I've ever witnessed. We got a mini-bus up from university. My girlfriend's dad was loaded and she has a B & O stereo system in her room at halls. She listened to the match on the radio and said the speakers were distorting when we were singing YNWA. The volume was ****ing breathtaking! Great ****ing days
Just read this thread and your GF was right as i remember struggling to hear the commentary just because of the crowd volume in itself but the the distortion of the speakers was horrendous Just listening on the radio left a massive impression so the effct at the ground must have been out of this world. remember the Allez Allez Livpool chants in the next few months
The other day, I referred to a video I watched when I was a kid. That clip is taken from that video! Edit: this one...
It was ****ing unbelievable. Everyone in the stands were standing on their seats. I was on the Kop. Sardines were nowhere near it
Nice bit of film keeps being shown by Sky to advertise weekends game, the camera pans slowly along the Kopp, scarves are held high, YNWA is belting out, not a mouth is moving Does it all come through the sound system
