Got an 'orrible feeling that this could be the case for our most recent January signing. Maybe for different reasons and totally different styles, but will Niasse ever score this season when Madine couldn't? All action but lacks control - or am I just being argumentative?
Might be right in terms of goals. He doesn't have a great track record. But his fitness, mobility and hold up play is far superior to Madine. I think he was signed to make the time and space for Sala to score the goals. Perhaps Ken can take that role?
OS makes a decent point. Niasse’s first touch is like an elephants. He has had sufficient opportunities in a City shirt but each time he’s fluffed. I’m not surprised Everton got rid. He looks the part but he just doesn’t seem to be the finished article. As for Madine, well he is as soft as plasticine and is more concerned with his hair not being out of place. I bet he shaves his chest.
Must say I had my doubts when we signed him, but his all action style for the first couple of games seemed to offer us something different. Since then he has proved to be exactly what the Everton fans have said - a trier but with very little skill, carthorse first touch, and no end product - exactly what we needed. I'm afraid he could be another turkey we got after Christmas that we didn't need.
I have only seen him in action for us once. A bit livelier than Madine, but not overly impressed on his performance yesterday. However, not overly impressed with the team's performance either, aside from the opening 10 minutes or so.
Just looking back over the threads - I posted this one five weeks ago and I'm still asking the same question................. Will Niasse ever score? OK, he was fairly isolated last night against Citeh, but when you do get a chance like he had, any decent finisher on a one to one with a keeper would have put that away. Another New Year turkey like Madine?
I am amazed that he hasn't been hauled off for Ken earlier in games. Should have happened sooner v Chelski and I'd have had Ken on with about 20 mins or so to go last night, as I'd say that's probably the worst I've seen him play for us. I honestly believe that if we'd have managed to sign Mitrovic (not that it was ever on the cards) then we'd be sitting pretty much in a safe spot by now. If only eh?
Didn’t need another striker at the time, it was the midfield that needed more quality. If we want a striker to bang goals in with our current midfield then a load more money would need to be found, even then the quality of striker would have far better options than us. I think Zohore is a far better player than Niasse.
This article sums it up https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...ws/cardiff-city-striker-who-dividing-16077643 I still don’t get why Reid doesn’t play especially after his display v Bournemouth.
He's not been given the chance. Never seems to figure for the starting 11 and most of us don't know why. Had very unfair treatment from Warnock to the extent that you coud say we wasted money on him - that's not Reid's fault either.
Comparisons with Madine are very unfair. Madine is a lamp post and if you bang the ball up in the air somewhere near him he may get on the end of it. However running the channels, pressing defenders and making a nuisance of himself are not his game. Niasse does all these well and the only gap in his game, and it is a big one, is his lack of goals - same as Madine. But we knew that when Niasse signed. He has never had a good record in this and was unlikely to change. In saying that he does so much more for the team and fits well with the pressing game we have played when possible. It can be argued that Madine came to us with a good scoring record but if you look at his season before the transfer something like 40% of his goals were penalties, including one against us I believe. He couldn't even score one for us when he had the chance. Niasse v. Madine? No contest, Niasse every time. As for Ken, due to his size, he can't do the closing down/pressing thing like Niasse and tends to tire around the 55/60 minute Mark. Niasse must run on Duracell and is good for 80 minutes +. Niasse is also better in the air than Ken despite being 4/5 inches shorter. Ken is better at finding the net, if you give him the ball on the left hand side of the box around the back of the defence or attacking the last man at pace. On the right side not so good and in the air forget it. Marginally I would go for Niasse over Ken, for his teamwork, but I would like to see them play together with Niasse in the middle making space for Ken to do what he does best.
The comparison with Madine relates to his goal scoring abilty not his style of play. Madine came to us in January last year for one specific reason - to score goals when when others in the squad couldn't and he failed. Maybe the reason this time was slightly different in that Niasse added pace as well but the real need was always for a goalscorer. In that respect he has failed as badly as Madine spurning some glorious chances that Madine never had (except for that penalty miss). The one game I believe he would have made a real difference is the one he couldn't play in - against Everton. His energy running at Jagielka and Co would have opened the game up for others. As it was we keeled over and gave them the game on a plate through totally negative tactics. Warnock has struck out again on the striker front and no one will ever know if he'd got it right with the tragic Sala attempt. As a side we went into this season relying on unproven or 3rd rate strikers in a division that demands better. For whatever reason, money or just decisions, that's twice now we've attempted to patch over the damage done in the summer with poor choices in January.
