Here is how it is from the horses mouth...... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13574484.stm Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has told supporters there will be no movement on transfers until the summer. The Black Cats have been linked with several new additions for next season, with Sebastian Larsson and David Vaughan among the names touted. "There's no point everybody getting worked up about things two or three days after the end of the season," Quinn told BBC Look North. "It will be July or August before things really get running." Quinn added: "In the meantime we'll put in the preparation work in, but there's going to be a long summer ahead of us." Sunderland's 10th-place finish was their highest in the Premier League since 2000/01, when Peter Reid's side ended the campaign in seventh. However the Wearsiders could have been celebrating a greater achievement, had a mid-season slump not extinguished hopes of European football in 2011/12. "It was funny how it all worked, but that's why the Premier League is so good. "You look at the inquest and say it could have been even better, and it's nice to say we are a top-10 club. "We had eight games that made things awkward for us, but there were circumstances. "The next step is to improve again, and I've always said it that the day we bring European football to the Stadium of Light is when we'll start patting ourselves on the back." Worryingly, he said in the video that he expects us not to make our first signing until August! Surely we are going to miss out to other clubs on a lot of potential signings by waiting that long? Our eventual new signings would also miss out on important pre season training and getting to know their new team mates before the season begins. Maybe they are trying to make savings on a couple of months wages???
Na, Quinn's not gonna say, 'we'll have 3 in next week', and tobe fair, most people will be on their jollies for a couple of weeks. Larsson i think is nailed on, and , bizarrely, as BC said it first, a friend of mine who's a WBA fan and runs a hotel down there, he reckons Luke Young's on his way, i even signed him on my FIFA manager on his word, ha.
I reckon so too mate. Bruce has said about wanting bosman signings in and he knows there'll be a lot of clubs interested in the likes of Larsson so he won't have a choice but to sign them before July/August. I wouldn't read too much into what he's saying at the minute seen as pretty much every club's rumour mills will be in overdrive less than a week after the season ended. IN QUINN WE TRUST
One percieved target David Vaughan has already signed for Norwich. Our neighbours seem to be showing a lot more intent than ourselves and once again I suspect we'll be scraping around for the left overs come August. Please Niall. Prove me wrong.
