Just a quick thread to gauge interest levels in a NH 10 to follow comp this winter. I thought something along the lines of:

Pick 10 horses before the end of October
SP profit to a mythical 1 point stake through to the end of the NH season proper (Bet365 Gold Cup day at Sandown)
No substitutes - if your horse gets injured tough ****
    6 point bonus for winning a Grade1
4 point bonus for winning a Grade 2
2 point bonus for winning a Grade 3

If we can get 12 - 15 interested it could be worth doing, if not we'll let it go

Oh yeah, and everyone is responsible for keeping their own points tally. I'll publish the leaderboard on the last day of each month. I will check final totals but can't be arsed scouring through each days results to find out whether someone's horse ran.

So who fancies it? Reply on this thread please <ok>

First prize is a MS Word document with Sir Barney Chuckle's favourite euphemisms.

Good fun if we can keep it going. I did have a system to administer this comp once (with substitutes) but I think people lost interest if they weren't doing too well. Can't remember who started it off (was it Tam?).

It can be an administrative nightmare Oddy. You need to list forthcoming entries to ensure none get missed and capture all the results. Don't blame you for not committing to administer it Oddy

. I doubt if everyone will be able to keep their scores up to date.

I wouldn’t want to disappoint my regular readers so I’ll give it a go.

And if I win I’ll hold my euphemisms aloft like the winning captain in the Cup Final!

Yes I'm in, if everyone puts their selections in their tracker they can track when their horse is running and update scores

That's a good idea CH. There are lots of trackers so it might be an idea if everyone uses one they don't already use (ie so that the alerts are specific to the comp). I don't know what other trackers are like but the Timeform one also provides the results which would be handy.

Also for any of them you can retrospectively look at the results

Also, I have just tested that I can grab these results straight into an Access database. Here is an example of what can then be printed

    upload_2015-10-13_11-35-50.png

With that info I could produce the LSP over any period and produce a printout of any horses if required

So, although each individual should keep track of their own, I could easily provide a check of results each month if required and print a report which can be posted directly on here.

PS. You need to be registered to use My Timeform but it's free.

Oddy, if you want me to go ahead with this, to help with the admin, let me know. I just need to test out a couple of things. For example, I will probably put the members' names in the Notes section (separated with commas) so that I can extract each set of 10 horses by member. After a few weeks of horses running for different members, including where a horse appears on more than one list, I can make any teaks required and BINGO

I'll give it a go, but can't be arsed in checking my scores - not that there are likely to be any!
