How many of these will still be on it? Marshall McNaughton Taylor Kiss Hudson Gerrard Whittingham Cowie Miller Earnshaw Conway Keinan Quinn Gestede Parkin Gunnersson Naylor Mason Meades Heaton Blake Taiwo Turner Harris Wilding Santiago Evans Farah Jarvis McPhail Ralls There will be those who Malky will want too get rid of and a few who will want first team football elsewhere, I think there might be 1 or 2 surprises.
parkin, taiwo will definetely go if there are any mugs who will take them. apart from the youth players that i know little about, i think quinn, earnshaw, keinan and naylor will go along with blake possibly as he needs regular first team football which he wont get here unless there is an injury crisis, he could do a job for another team in this league no problem. but we need more players coming in than going out IMO as time and time again we seem to have a small squad...
30 players isn't that small a squad. The trouble is that probably only about half are Championship standard. You need the numbers for cover, but it's qualtiy not quantity that counts, and unfortunately that costs money. The close season will be very interesting whichever league we'll be in.
Much will depend on results of this Saturday and, fingers crossed, the next 3 weeks. However, as a minimum I expect the following to go: - Gerrard - needs 1st team football Earnie - ditto Keinan - needs to get the odd game at least Quinn - ditto Parkin - no need to explain Naylor - needs to get the odd game at least Meades - has anyone ever seen him play? Heaton - needs 1st team football and we have signed a replacement in Parrish Taiwo - no need to explain Wildig - won't cut it at Championship level, hope Shresbury make him an offer Santiago - already gone I think Evans - won't cut it at Championship level McPhail - health issues that won't go away, has really struggled to last 60 minutes and I can't see that improving. Don't know if he has done any coaching badges. If he has he could stay in a non-playing role. So, for me, that's 13 out. Some dead wood and youngsters who won't make the grade. I hope Darcy stays but could see him pushing to leave if no hope of regular games. There could be some others - Whitts maybe if we don't go up and the price is right but we must hold on to other promising players like Mason, Turner and Ralls. All in all another big rebuild for Malky but he has the whole summer to do it, hopefully with sensible financial backing. The squad will then be his to move forward.
Marshall McNaughton Taylor Kiss Hudson Gerrard Whittingham Cowie Miller Earnshaw Conway Keinan Quinn Gestede Parkin Gunnarsson Naylor Mason Meades Heaton Blake Taiwo Turner Harris Wilding Santiago Evans Farah Jarvis McPhail Ralls Not sure about Heaton and Blake. If they could get another club I think they could be off. I've include Macca to stay but I'm not sure how much we'll see of him though - hope I'm wrong
Hasn't Jarvis recently signed a new contract? That's why I didn't include him on my list. He has done okay at Newport without setting the world on fire. He will never be a prolific goal scorer but is useful as a target man and runs all day. Will probably get another make or break season with us. That apart H, great minds think alike.
i agree sparky, i dont really count unproven youngsters as members of the squad, but in terms of quality in some areas we are alarmingly low on quantity and quality. if mcphail stays then he should accept reduced wages as he cant play 46 games.... i was surprised gestede has been given a new contract but hopefully his best has yet to come... i've listed 5 i think will go but i think 10 or more will go as malky continues to reshape this squad..
