Was just thinking, for next seasons warm up games wouldn't it be a good idea to have a competition among all the northern clubs. A sort of a knock out competition where each team would play each other and a new ' Cock of the North' trophy could be awarded to the winners.

It would be good revenue wise ( especially for the smaller clubs ) and good for the fans not having to travel so far pre season.

It could include us, Sunderland, Boro, Darlington, Hartlepool, and maybe Gateshead and even Carlisle.

Not the biggest of tests but good warm ups to get everybody match fit.

No point you playing Sunderland as they will be a division above you again. The likes of Carlisle and Hartlepool no problem, they are on your low level.

Would love this, played around the different grounds over a few weeks. The tyne-wear derby would be quality, even if it's only a friendly.

Saying that, would still like another pre-season somewhere else... would love a trip to Celtic Park for example.
Can't think of many other places in the UK I'm desperate to go to, anyone been to any good pre-seasons?

Thanks for that gem of wisdom ufos. And how did you do against us this year? I seem to have forgotten.

I'd love us to host or participate in a Sir Bobby Cup friendly tournament. 8 teams, 3 rounds.

Newcastle, Fulham, Ipswich, Porto, PSV, Barcelona, WBA, Sporting.

Ooh, like that idea... held at SJP?

Would be good having messi up here, but can't see us luring Euro giants like them here.

I'd love it, if only we could convince Barca I think their presence alone would attract the other smaller teams, plus the fact that it could be another amazing tribute to Sir Bobby, to have all his former clubs compete like this.

Thought they should have had a 4 team tournament involving West Brom, Fulham, Ipswich and us last summer.

I absolutely love the idea for both, but not so much the northern one because the derby would still be fierce even if it was a friendly, we could end up with injuries to key players before the season even starts.

I think the Bobby Robson one is a cracking idea mind, with the proceeds going to his cancer foundation where possible.

The English one would be easier to organise because there are less teams and they are all England based and none are as high profile as the likes of Barca. But then I doubt Fulham and WBA (and us) would be too keen on playing PL rivals in pre season. Really hope the 8 team version is possible, as I'd love to see that for Sir Bobby, for the charity, and for some amazing football at SJP.
