http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013–14_in_English_football You might want to keep an eye on there. There are some pretty active people on Wikipedia, and as soon as any info comes out, that's where it will appear. Since there's no article there yet, I'd assume nothing's been officially confirmed.
@football_league: BREAKING: Season 2013/14 confirmed kick-off date is Sat 3rd August #Season201314. Full details & other key dates here: http://t.co/pfDuDwan Tweet is from some time back
Championship 3rd Aug see FL web-site PL not sure but probably the week after. World Cup 2014 ensures an early start so pre-season might have to start last week in June.
Without checking, that might just be the earliest date a league program has started. Any stattos wish to respond ?
Prem is normally the week after the Football League as it tends to be the Community Shield before the PL starts.
**** me, the 3rd August! I can't believe that a season's started that early before. When's the play-off final? That probably only puts about 10 weeks between end of one season / start of next.
2014 Championship play-off is Mon 25th May - again according to FL web site. That's one hell of a long league season. Wonder if they'll play the 1st round of the Capital One Cup the week before as well !
Won't be so bad, we'll only have 38 league games to play remember. Following season will be tough with those games in Europe mind !!
The FL have confirmed that the championship and leagues one and two will start on August 3rd as clubs voted for an earlier start due to the summer being free of football tournaments. The PL will start 2 weeks later on the weekend of 17th August. But they have 8 less fixtures.
This should relieve fixture congestion and less cold night games. With the PL starting two weeks later, I'd expect the community shield to be the weekend between the two starts then, unless of course a Football League side wins the FA cup and faces the PL league winners, then it will I imagine have to be before Aug 3rd unless the FL would be happy to postpone a league fixture for a friendly.
Unless there's internationals due that weekend they could play the League Cup 1st Round on the weekend inbetween to avoid that problem, with a League schedule taking the midweek date that would normally be reserved for the LC. All European qualifying sides are given a bye to the 3rd Round so if it were a FL side they'd have the weekend off anyway. Obviously if that's an international weekend the Charity Shield will have to be the same weekend we start with the same potential problem anyway.
