Don't get me wrong, I have no wish to see the back of SG and DA but one thing that has impressed me this year is the additional leadership that the likes of Suarez (now the histrionics seem to have stopped) and Henderson, not to mention the likes of Sakho. So, from our current squad, who do you see as a natural replacement for our current captain/vice captain. For me, Henderson seems to be the one stepping up, only usurped by Suarez, should he stay. Whatever happens, it's good to see a level of leadership all over the park; long may it continue!
Henderson seems a natural candidate in the future, if you watch videos of him training and around Melwood he is outgoing, vocal and approachable.
Got nothing to with that fact I love the lads effort and now improving ability, but Hendo to take the Arm band once Gerrard isn't a regular anymore.
captains can either: 1. hand out match day tickets and do interviews or 2. ge ti nref's ears and genuinely influence things. I want to see a LOT LESS agger types frankly. sarry but i watched hull and not one LFC player bar suarez got on that ref's case and he was let away with murder. What we need is characters like carragher who iwll run 50 yards to extract a decision "next time" from a ref.. someone who will turn a red to a yellow or a yellow to nothing by just being there. Gerrard aint too bad but its mostly his rep and age and knowing refs. he's bot brilliant at it. We need guys to surround the ref and just put the case over constantly. Henderosn does a bit of directing, no question... but he's got to step it right up to be captain. for me the bad candidates would be lucas... never opens his gob... skertl.. likewise.. and agger.. ditto...
few who could just personnel preference i guess. Toure,Lucas,Henderson,Luis,Sakho. Luis would be my choice but that would only happen after the Summer depending where we was with him ie cl football, see the pride in him when he was captain that was good to see, also the way he has been with Sterling has helped as well trying to give the lad confidence by setting him up for goals more.
Suarez will bend the ref's ear. Think this is down to seniority, because Gerrard is who he is maybe our younger players feel that it's his role out there to be that influence.
Suarez got booked for it.... not directly but for a nothing foul and ifrst offence cos he'd given the ref an earful 2 mins before. had his team mates helped him with it i doubt that would have happened. i think its surprising what a ref can be talked into. we need 3-4 guys doing it... fair play? bollox.. take advantage cos you know chelsea will be doing it.
oh and i forgot. the 3 guys i mentioned v hull... we all 3 senior players on the pitch. skertl is 29, agger is 29, lucas is 26. if not by now when will they ever open thier mouths? henderson is 23, terling 19, i didn't even bother mention johnson hiding on the wing at 29 also.
Sakho has not been here long enough and is far too heretic to be captain right now, maybe in a couple of years or more. Assuming he stays, Skrtel would be good if he stops trying to play rugby.
The last thing I want to see is players surrounding the ref, tbh. I'd like a rugby type rule where only the captain and the culprit can go near the ref when he's making a decision. Bit too early for Hendo yet, imo. I don't think he has the authority required just yet but may be one for the future. I would guess they might give it to Suarez as another political move to make him feel responsible and a big part of the club. The fact that he's third choice at the moment obviously points to this too. Of course that depends on him still being here by the time the decision is necessary.
Henerson has captain the England under 21's so you'd think would be a natural candidate. Sakho has captains PSG when younger, he'd need to be here a few more years to be considered though. don't like making players captain too young, think it's put unneeded pressure on them to perform and stay in the team. Henderson is progressing nicely and in 2 or 3 years when Gerrard goes then maybe he'll be ready. But in those 3 years half the team may have changed so who knows. If Gerrard was to go now I'd say Suarez, if he was to go then maybe Toure with his experience.
I would like a lot of rugby rules especially citing officer system... but in the absence of all of this we must assume the refs and fa are corruptible so I think while fair play might not be to be on the refs case... if we don't do it we will get less decisions. Just my view based on if everyone else is at it... same as diving... until its outlawed if you are not at it you are not at the races. Skertl is absolutely not captian material. he contributes nothing vocally on the pitch.
We don't actually have a great choice. Reina if he stayed would be my first choice but he's not coming back is he unless Mig seriously messes up between now and summer? Nice to see a scouse captain - that would be Kelly or Flanagan, both too young and still fringe players. I really don't know. I think Agger is very vocal and could step up but we'd need a good vice capt for the amount of time Agger spends out
