I reckon that we need to have 20Pts on the board by the time the Swansea game is over (I/2 way point in season). Looking at our next 8 games below where do you see us picking up the necessary points. I have taken a quick stab at it and thinks its well achieveable pending limited injuries, suspensions etc etc. Thoughts ? Queens Park Rangers v Manchester City (0) Stoke City v Queens Park Rangers (1 Pt) Norwich City v Queens Park Rangers (1 Pt) Queens Park Rangers v West Bromwich Albion (3 Pts) Liverpool v Queens Park Rangers (0) Queens Park Rangers v Manchester United (0) Queens Park Rangers v Sunderland (3 Pts) Swansea City v Queens Park Rangers (1 Pt) Worth mentioning that we will have Swansea, Norwich and Stoke at home in the new year and by then we should have a few additional players on board.
It is not good enough to draw with Norwich and Swansea - must beat one of them and even. The trouble is, they both play so well and are a closed season ahead of us in team acquisition and team building thanks to Flav and Bernie. West Brom, yes. Stoke? Grindingly good team. Not sure re Sunderland.
I think the second half of the season is better for us, more winnable home games. I don't think 20 points by Swansea is necessary, 18 would be OK. Also I think we will strengthen more than Norwich and Swansea in January and they may suffer more than us towards the end of the season. However, we do need to fight for every point and not take anything for granted or get too depressed after a defeat. We have every chance of staying up but it will not be easy.
8 pts from those 8 games SEEMS well within our capability but when I look at each fixture I am uneasy. Stoke and Norwich away? We could come home with nothing. 'Pool, Man C, Man U, ditto. Swansea are excellent at home - could be tricky. That leaves West Brom and Sunderland at home; our record against the "beatable teams" at LR isn't great so far. But...... I prefer to lump them all together and say that after these 8 games we WILL have 8 pts at least, I don't know how! (Bit bi-polar I know!)
If we have 20 pts by our 19th game i will be more than happy, it gives us every chance of staying up. Also if we get a couple of players in January that could help our second half of the season. Looking at the table this year i do believe that some of the lower clubs will not get anywhere near the 40 point mark, personally think they will struggle to get 35. Look at Wigan 5 points from first 3 games against all promoted sides, lost their other 7 games. For me they will struggle to claw points back. Wolves look awful at the moment as do blackburn. All those clubs will struggle to get 35 points.
Agreed. I only put this up for us to try and take a longer view rather than reacting to individual results. Regardless of how other teams are doing i think we need to keep the table ticking over. I think it's important that we are somewhere near the 20Pts mark after the above games, because if we are not then we are going to be right down there in the bottom 3-4 and that creates its own probs and pressure.
Updated with my predictions for what it's worth. The Norwich match is massive, cos I see us losing the next 2.
Can't see us getting anything at Norwich they had our number last year and they have a really solid unit 0pts me thinks. On the plus side we should comfortably beat Man City this Saturday
The geordies showed you can get something at Stoke.Their game is built around Delap's long throws and aerial duels, admittedly were not a huge team but if Paddy comes for most of them i think with all their European distractions aswell we can nick a point off them.
I thought that till I watched their game Saturday on a stream. No I reckon the Geordies just made them angry in time for our visit!
Yea, the Norwich match is huge. It would be great to grab a couple of draws away to Norwich and Swansea. I'm sure they will have targeted us for the 3 Pts. Anything more than two points in these games would be a massive brucey bonus. Even going by your predictions we would still be at 19Pts after Christmas which is still very much on track. Performances in the games we loose are the key for me. No more bad drubbings please.
If we show the same commitment as Chelsea first half and Spurs second half for 90 minutes every game we will be just fine!
To be honest can't rely on paddy coming for crosses, thats the weakest part of his game. Great shot stopper but like a vampire when it comes to crosses. When it comes to points its virtually impossible for us to call, bet no-one predicted 3 pts at everton or at home vs chelsea ,but i et lots thought we'd beat bolton and blackburn. Don't are how we get them just need them on the board. Still healthily above bottom 3, lets keep it that way.
I don't think we need to worry. Finishing 17th is of course, our main target, but I think this team has far more potential than it has shown. This is because we are still trying to blend all our new players together. ( I'm trying to avoid that awful 'A work in progress' cliche.) I feel that we have a better side than Newcastle had last season, and they stayed up comfortably. Not many sides outside of the 'Big 6' are that much better squad wise either. Once Warnock and Co, get us gelled and playing good ,strong, positive & confident football, we'll be flying. There are 6-8 teams who are definately no better than us. What with the inevitable quality additions coming in January, ( Do you now see why Warnock was blowing Harry & his Spurs on Sunday?) We will finish at least 14th.
Hugely optimistic 999. All the PL clubs right down to Blackburn made significant investment in their squads in the last window. We were still one of the low spenders despite Fernadez's last gasp cash injection. We need more agile tactics from NW, more confidence among the playing staff and a further 3-4 players in January. If all that transpires then 14th may be realistic.
I agree Aaaaaaagh. You mentioned the key point, that will define the destiny of our season. Warnock. More agile tactics, sums it up nicely for me. I think he has got more wrong than right this season. He more than any of the players is the one who needs to up his game.
