On paper it looks like we have the perfect opportunity to get enough points to ensure safety with Saints (H) Sunderland (A) Wigan (A) Swansea (H) I would happily take 6 pts from the two home games but think we will only get 4. Wigan and Sunderland seem to be very unpredictable of late so I am hoping for a draw from both or a win against one of them. Do you think we can get what we need from this run?
Personally I would be quite happy with 4.Being on 36 with six remaining and we would be safe.I feel that we really should be capable of four from the two home games plus one from another of the aways.So,5 for me.
5 points one win and a couple of draws Sunderland aren't playing great ATM and i'd hope we'd do better than the 3-0 last season wigan will see this as a must win. potentially the hardest game is Swansea - although we have a good record against them in the last couple of seasons i'm sure they'll be up for it and are doing very well
Five points from those 4 games should be enough to make it safe. Wigan have Liverpool (h), ManCity (a), Norwich (h) and QPR (a), for example. Six points maximum.
And for that they now need to beat us and QPR.I can't see them getting much change from the moneybags.
I can see any sort of results coming out from these games, but I hope we can get at least 4 points. We are also playing Wigan at the wrong time of the season!
Martinez will sort that out, it will prove a springboard for them, you wait and see. There have been at least 3 seasons where I thought they were dead and buried, but they always pull out 3 results from nowhere at the end of the season.
What I am going to say I cannot justify with facts or stats but I still have a nasty feeling that other Clubs will get more points than anticipated and it will be one of those years where you need 40 points to avoid 3rd from bottom. On that basis anything less than 4 points would leave us in the firing line.
I think and believe we will come out of these games as "safe" and get 5 points in total, but I don't expect an easy ride and the pessimist in me says we will inevitably make it tough for ourselves. None of these games are in any way "bankers" as far as I'm concerned. Saints can score goals we know that and we are struggling to do just that at the moment, this could make for a difficult game for us if we get ourselves into a position where we need to outscore them in an end to ender. Sunderland probably represents our best chance, but they have the players to beat us on their day if they get the plan right. Wigan have a track record for pulling off the results they need at this time of year and Swansea are flying, I think it would be a big mistake to assume we will continue our good results against them at the moment. We are quite capable of losing all 4 matches, but I dont think we will.
Agree. The bottom half of the Premier League has almost become a Championship in that anyone can beat anyone on their day.
Did you see us against Liverpool? We were arguably worse on both occasions but two wins and two draws will see us stay up. Don't ever write Wigan off...
If we put in an attacking performance like we did against Manchester United then we won't get any wins, that's for sure. I rather feel we will stay up, but will stagger across the line rather than run.
I can't see us picking up any less than four points from the next four games, which should hopefully see us safe for another year
agree with munky. i'd be flabbergasted if we don't pick up at least four points from those four games. i really see no reason for worry. we will be safe with a few games to spare, just like last season.
I know you lot aren't to fond of my team (QPR) but I notice you are very much in the position to do us a few favours in the remaining 10 fixtures. So if you wouldn't mind!!
yes we were poor. i'm not writing wigan off, just pointing out martinez has more problems than the last couple of seasons, also i think by this stage last season they were already on a good run, we faced them in March at home where they were good. attacking they still look good now, but let too many goals in.
