Norwich (H) WBA (A) Swansea (H) I know we all fully expect 9 points from these games, but there is always a chance of a bannana skin. These type of games cost us the title in 08/09 so what do you guys see out of these? The 2 home games are a must win, it would be great to go into the Chelsea game on 23 points though.
in what FM 07 I'm only messing , i can see 7 points out of that with the banana being woys west bwom ( obviously i hope for 9)
Well, we just got a good point against Manure so, as history suggests, we should lose to Norwich. I predict 6 points.
To be honest I'm a mite disappointed with our points haul so far. We need to get in a good run of wins to get it back to the point where we can feel good about a top four finish. No disrespect to the teams involved but I really think we need the nine, with Chelsea and City coming up afterwards.
Well if we do get the nine points that will give us 23 points from 11 games so just above the widely assumed avg required for a top 4 place. Seeing as we have city and chavs after these three it almost makes these three into "must win" games
these 3 games should be 9 points and if so we could be back up in the top 4 and closer to the top tier (3). What did you cook? was it from the cookbook thread the other day......
if we want 4th we need to do better than we've done so far, thats the first point. here's my thinking. 1. 70 points gets 4th and has done for many years. 2. 70/38 = 1.84 points per game or in a better format just about 7.5 points per 4 mathces 3. co-incidentally we've played 8 games (2 groups of 4 points) and taken 14 points = 7 points per group of 4. this brings me neatly to the next set of 4 games. the Op has kindly posted the first 3 and then its chelsea.... so what do we need to go do? well we need to get up to 23 points on the board after game 12 to be on track for 70points. 23-14 = 9 points. So by my reckoning we need to win the next three games to account for that and go get what we get v chelsea as a bonus! simple to my mind, this is what we need to do. If we don't do it then we need to play catch up agains tchelsea which is very dangerous. finally all this is of course moot if you are more ambitious but remember to compete at the top you will need something like 9 or 10 point sout of 12 so my figures bear out that we're well behind o nthat... and amazingly city are showing right now 11 points out of 12 form = 90+ points.
The only time it hasn't been enough is back in the days when there were 42 games in a season - so 70 points virtually guarantees 4th.
I'm feeling 9 from 3. I just think that somethings going to click soon, and the chances we've been creating will start to go in. Someones going to get a pasting soon enough. Worried about Chelsea though. FT seems to have found his touch again with a stunning brace against Genk (Genk, who the f..k are Genk?)
If Torres hadn't scored against Genk then he should have been sold in January!! They didn't even bother to mark him in the box, why do we have teams like that in the CL? I'm all for giving smaller teams a chance but I think I could have made it more difficult for torres than they did.
Oh yeah, 10 points needed from the next 4 games needed to keep the pressure on spurs and arsenal and jump newcastle into 4th
You've got to take into account though that the league is at the strongest its been for a while, especially with City, Chelsea and Man Utd already having all but sewn up their top 4 places, and Spurs looking good at the moment. What we really need to do is match Spurs. I reckon 4th will take about 75 points this time round to achieve.
I'm all for Newcastle staying 4th for a little longer, why I hear you ask? ...Well they play City, Utd and Chelsea in consecutive games so I would welcome any team to knock points of that lot. Just hope they carry on their good form into those games.
lucaas... conversely as you've pointed out the league appears on the face of it either "stronger" or perhaps more "level" than t has ever been. My view is that stadnards have slipped since english clubs dominated eurpe 3-4 years ago and spain is the best now but thats a moot point. I'd like to turn your point around and say if there is truely a 6 club race for the top 4 slots AND add i the fact that other sides like sotke and newcastle who should go close are very hard to go to as spurs and we found out... well then i think 65 points or less may take 4th! it's swings and roundabouts i guess. 4th is the bare minimum according to mr henry but if you look at it 70 points isn't that hard to get. (if you are decent and consistent) 19 home games, win 10, draw 5 = 35points 19 away games win 10 draw 5 = 35points. oh and our home form no matter how bad we've been we've won more than 10 games so if we win 12 at home for example we can get by with 8 wins on the road.... for a club with our team we should be able to go do that if we fix the away inhibitions we have developed. ........................ then again newcaslte, stoke and spurs cuold say the same. Arsenal have soem issues at home as well. So i think this league will come down to who does best on the road.
