With all the teams around us slipping up last night ( apart from Boro') we have the chance to put some breathing space between us and and teams below. If we could get 6 points out of the next 2 games, these 6 points could prove vital at the end of the season, and could be the difference between getting a play off place or automatic promotion. A bit early for all this sort of talk I know, but if we want to do well this season we need to take advantage of everything thats given to us. Sotonsaint
I would say the game after the next 2 against Derby is equally important but the way I look at it is if we average 2 points and 2 goals a game you will go up.
Every game is important but the most important game is alaways the next one. No point in looking beyond it. Then draw a line under it and get back on the bus to the next one.
Absolutely. There are no crunch games. They are ALL crunch games. Adkins knows this, and it's why Saints have made their best start since their dominating Southern League days.
This is a massive opportunity... However I think Cardiff will turn up, we will be 2-0 down at half-time and that is how it will stay
You really think we'll be unable to score a goal(or two) with our firepower...that'll be a first this season Might agree with your half time but there are goals in this team (if usual formation) All games are huge COYS
I wouldn't call them 'huge'. As above, every game is worth 3 points to the winner and no more. You could argue that the games we're expected to win, particualrly at home, heaps more pressure on the team and makes it tougher. Together as one.
Have to agree with these posts. For sure, Cardiff and Derby are big games - but pretty much every game this season is a big one. It's the complete reverse to last season, where it was easy to pick out the big games because there were so few of them. Now, you can really only highlight the 'easy' ones (and I include home to Watford as one of them) - but even those games, you can't afford to relax. For me, this division is miles stronger than when we were last here. For a large part of our four years down here before, the top 7 or 8 were fairly obvious from the word go each season. You could make a case for 12+ sides to get into the top 6 this season. And as for down the bottom, I think it's a small pool of just Coventry, Bristol City, Barnsley, Doncaster, Millwall and Posh. And of them, Barnsley and Posh have hardly started badly!
Its quite simple! If were in the top six just after xmas were in with a shout. you could be be top 10 points clear at the start of the year and still just scrape a play off place The trick is to stay the course until xmas then find some form for the long run in till the end of the season
As I keep saying, we need every player picked to turn up and play their best, we need decent Officials that make the right decisions, a little bit of luck and the run of the ball, and no critical injuries and then we might win it, simple.
Its this type of game that will determine the season - we can pull away from the pack who had a misserable evening last night and we need to capitalise on that with 3pts As already said, when you are top every game is a crunch game, every game is a cup final so lets get behind the guys! COYR
Yes, I like the summary, but please, Please, PLEASE, can we STOP with that one trick word simples..? If you're going to write simple, then by all means, do so. Just try to leave off the extra bloody ESS..! I stopped grinning at the second utterance by those that put the words into the virtual mouths of those feign East European Meerkat animations. Thank you for trying in the future.
As I said! Some didn't turn up and play their best, don't know yet about the Ref but Solent thought we had a good shout for penalty before they scored, not much luck and judging by the near misses didn't get the run of the ball, at least we don't appear to have had any injuries, my use of simples is a tribute to NA and Russian Meerkats, sorry if it annoys some of you, won't do it again.
Oh, don't take it to heart SaintDon13. You're just the latest of loads of people who over use the word. I'm one of those few that lost the joke after it was uttered the second time. No offence aimed at you at all.
Well now I am worried. If there is now a rule against cheesy repetitive humour, then I might as well get my coat now. Returning to the OP, I have always struggled with "vital game" concept, unless it is against a promotion rival towards the end of the season. I know some games are likely to be harder than others, but don't we get three points for any win regardless of whether is considered vital? Simple5
Last night was no more vital than any other. I'm not sure what Solent saw as a possible penalty, but our players certainly stopped playing for a second and it was long enough to be caught out at the back. I had no real complaints about the officials last night. Cardiff did us - simple!
Which ever way you look at it.....to get out of this league is not going to be easy. Cardiff have been on the verge of breaking out for the last 3/4 seasons. So perhaps last nights result was not that surprising. We are going to lose games what we cannot afford to do is to lose too many. Am a little concerned that we have not kept many a clean sheet this season. Whether that is because of the quality of the opposition or because we have a slight frailty at the back is another, either is debatable. As for the repetitive cheesy humour......Come on guys lighten up a bit.......if people want to add it for a bit of very simple humour.......Does it really matter that much? It's the catchy saying of the day......in my younger day it was "right on man" or a more recent......"cool" There is probably another 6/8 catchy phrases that have come to prominence. One of my favorites was "ooooo Betty" Which a few of you may remember. So come on lighten up, rather that than a lot of fffing and blinding....Simples........
