I have this morning come back from World Youth Day in Madrid. It was brilliant, but I am knackered and cannot be bothered to find out who we've been linked with, how we've performed etc. I know about the Liverpool and Newcastle results (shudder), and I see we have a new banner (love it btw). Can anyone sum up in a nutshell what has happened in the past two weeks, since the 11th of August?
Played well against Liverpool (Especially Second Half) and deserved at least a point Played some excellent football against the mags (first half) and dominated but let them back into it second half and poor goalkeeping cost us the game (IMO) Put some lovely balls into the box in both of the last 2 games (last night included) but didn't have that "Right place right time" player which cost us both games really Formation last night started with 1 goalkeeper, 4 defenders (including Richardson and Elmo in this), 6 midfielders and no strikers - sessegnon up front on his own A lot of fans have turned on Bruce because of it and I'm on the fence
Most of your fans seemed to have forgiven Bruce for the bad run last season and had even begun to look forward with optimism after seeing your summer signings. They seemed happy enough with a creditable draw at Liverpool and your team were the bookies favourites for the derby. The derby itself was, as you would expect, a battle. You dominated possession for the first 20 minutes but didn't really create many clear-cut chances, but had a few efforts from outside the box. We got more into the game as the half went on and into the second half. The goal was down to a goalkeeping error, his starting position seemed too far forward, and we won, but neither team played very well. Following this result, many of your fans have had enough and want Bruce to be sacked. The fact that he had such a poor finish to last season has surfaced again, and this, added to a poor derby result seems to have exhausted many of the fans patience. Losing to Brighton and the weird team selection last night was the final straw for many of the remaining "give bruce more time" fans and I get the impression that the vast majority now want him out. Lots of very unhappy Sunderland fans. There's been a few slagging matches on here, and not just against us Toon fans. cestriamackem and biffa have both decided to leave the forum. But Bill is back. Us Newcastle fans are not taking the piss too much because we remember what happened last year when you got beat by Notts County and after laughing at you lot, we then got beat by Steveange and looked pretty silly. I have tried to be as objective as possible here and have not given my opinion on any of these events apart from the derby where I have tried to take my newcastle hat off.
Marcus obv has rose tinted glasses on. Rico should have been sent off against Liverpool and a Carroll goal. Should have stood. Larsson should have gone 20 mins into the Derby and the scum getting a penalty. Catts should have gone also. Piss poor start really
Forgetting that Larsson should have been sent off after 15 mins and a penalty awarded to Newcastle for a deliberate handball to save a Barton header off the line. Missed by officials probably in some part to Larsson's protestations that the ball actually hit his head
What's all this stuff about Brighton? Sorry, really out of the loop here, but I didn't know we were even playing them!
a lot of people are blaming you jersey, 2 weeks with the Pope and not one prayer answerd, we really expected a lot more mate
Everyone seems to forget one of your players handled the ball before Larsson, so it should have been a free kick to us.
Lots have things have changed whilst you have been away, but that doesn't include newtonlee2 who is still (and always will be) a Mag tosser pretending to be a Sunderland fan who slags everything the team/club does whether it's good or bad...
Aye Syd, off he pops to see the Pope and none of our prayers were answered. (Unless! God forbid, Jersey is a Mag Fifth Columnist?)
Well, I got the news of the derby loss in the middle of three people almost dying of sunstroke an dehydration, they didn't seem concerned when I told them! Some people only think about themselves, don't they...
Welcome back! Glad you had a good time. I saw the Spanish were protesting about the cost of the Pope's visit? Did it have any effect? Maybe the prayers were why we didn't have Richardson and Larsson sent off? Certainly someone was looking out for us as that was more good luck in those first 2 games than we had most of last season.
