I am i alone in thinking about ditching Sky as a result of the activities of the News of the World over the taping of phones of victims of crime? Basically I can not see how the Murdoch press can be seen as a fit and proper organisation to own and run media out lets in the country. The footballing aspect of this is that if we all dump Sky, then Sky dumps footbal what happens to the income to the clubs. A number of high profile companies have already indicated that they will not advertise in the papers any more. Evebn with this hanging over them the Sun hid the story away on the inside pages and the times although it ran the story on the front page played it down more that the other papers. So much for a free press! The only publication I would miss for acurate reporting would be the Times the rest of the Murdoch press are rubish at getting their fact right any way. Note: If you look at post number 24 there is a link to protest against News International. I tried to copy and paste the link but failed, so go there and protest! http://www.avaaz.org/en/murdoch_messages_2/?twi Stop the Murdoch Empire. Sign this.
unfortunately however much we hate them, they control football in this and other countries, changing kick offs to suit their plan etc, if you want to watch live footy there is either sky or some streaming site in general yes the press are a bunch of w(&kers but they've got the ball
I think what the OP is saying is by rights we should all stop giving Murdoch/News International which owns Sky/NOTW, our money, because they are a disgusting bunch of heartless ****ers. Sadly, the knock on consuquences of such a move (destroying clubs, nee footy on TV), are too heavy.
New International which owns Sky are also the owners of the News of The World who are now implicated not only in taping into the phones of celbs but of the young girl who was murderd a couple of years ago to get gossip for the paper, itis also suggested that they did the same thing with the phones of the two girls who were murdered a few years back in Shoham (if thats how you spell it). This morning it it turns out that they taped the phones of the family members of victims of the JUly bombings! I just can not see hpow they can be allowed to run any media out let and as such I do not want them to have a penny of my money so Sky will be cancelled in this house and no paper owned by them will ever be bought again (the only one I read in any case is the Times). The questions is if we all do that does that put the Sky football deal at risk then what happens to clubs?
It's to do with Murdoch owning News International. Wasn't really much of a story until recently the police have said News Of The World hired external private investigators and there are links with phone tappings in murder cases such as Milly Dowler where they are said to have accessed the voicemail faciltiy on her mobile and when it became full deleted certain messages therefore giving people hope she was still alive, 7/7 victims are also said to have been tapped. I can't believe anyone would stoop so low and the extra hurt it's bound to cause parents and relatives is inexcusable. As for the OP relating this to Sky, unfortunately football without SKY is a bit like fish without chips.
Well, the clubs wouldnt get the payments they were expecting and would really ruin the poorer/lower league clubs seeing more than afew going bust. I imagine the more in demand teams such as man utd would thrive as they could sell their own TV rights and make a shed load such as what the likes of Barca and Real do. You would probably find the Prem would turn into a Seria A with lower crowds and poorer players. The Seria A used too be a real family league and now its a hooligan league with mass corruption and awful average attendences. I watched the Seria A review and the amount of spair seats was hurrendous. Dont Juve get a 6000 average attendance in their 40000 seater stadium which they moved into the other year?
In a perfect world maybe, he's had a monopoly on the media world for some time with his media empire, imagine the cost involved of any court action trying to force a breakup.
I agree with Washy, Ive never had Sky for the simple reason it stuffs up the fixtyres, ive been a Sunderland fan since the late 1950s and call me old fashioned if you like but I have always preferred 3pm Saturday afternoon kick offs. I dont get to many games now but used to travel over when I had a season ticket in Peter Reids days and detested Sunday 4pm and Monday 8pm kick offs it just ruins the whole weekend. These latest developments about phone hacking means the press have reached a new all time low but should we be surprised, they are all a bunch of a...holes. I get by by watching the BBC on the red button on a Saturday, I know its not the best but its free and follow my football on the internet. You dont have to pay the piper and football WILL survive without SKY.
One great thing would happen. All those blown up ponces would stop getting the silly millions that they supposedly "earn".
I already don't pay for Sky on principle: That is I don't agree with one man/organisation having so much media and political influence. This latest carry on just makes things worse. I know there is some who argue that the money he/they put into football is essential; but I don't think that this is necessarily true. All it means is that footballers, agents etc are far richer than before; but all it has done for the fans is make them pay more for to watch football and at increasingly awkward times.
I wish I had thought of this before payiny my £14.95 for the boxing. I enjoy sky so wont be dropping it
Can't believe that people haven't seen all along what News International Journalists are about, these are the same Arseholes who acused Liverpool fans of robbing the dead after Hillsbourgh, Never buy the Sun, NoTW, Times etc. since then. Also have we all forgot about Wapping and how he put down the striking print workers. Doesn't Murddocks son run BSkyB now?
