From NUFC.COM The proposed transfer of Lille central midfielder Yohan Cabaye (left) to Newcastle is expected to be finalised in the coming days, with the player heading to Tyneside for a medical following international duty with France. The 25 year-old is in the French squad who face Poland this evening (Thursday) in a friendly fixture that will be played at the home of Legia Warsaw. If he plays, Yohan will win his fourth full cap for Les Bleus, since debuting during a 1-2 friendly loss to Norway back in August 2010. After another cameo outing against Brazil in February, Cabaye was promoted to the starting XI for a 4-1 friendly win over Ukraine in Donetsk on Monday. PS: Newspaper reports on Thursday put the Cabaye transfer fee at £4.8m.
well its certainly not bad news! Happy to see this one progressing. Just hope he's the real deal! After tomorrow it'll be all guns blazing on a striker. ...I hope...
All the young French lads seemed to play in the game against Norway, Ben Arfa, Menez and I think Gameiro as well...Blanc is utilizing these friendlies, Capello is wasting everyones time! Anyway back to Newcastle...Can't wait for it to be official, the news has seemed so stagnant since the rumors of Cabaye/Gervinho broke!
Reported by Graeme Bailey on twitter too... @SkyGraemeBailey French reports are suggesting that Lille's Yohan Cabaye is due on Tyneside on Friday to finalise his move to the club #nufc
He's apparently flying to Tyneside tomorrow for this medical...He'll be knackered! When it's confirmed though - queue formation porn about how best to play him even though the vast majority will not have seen him play
