Posted this on my own board and it statred a good debate thought I would spread it to others.

News of the World and Sky Sports
I am i alone in thinking about ditching Sky as a result of the activities of the News of the World over the taping of phones of victims of crime?

Basically I can not see how the Murdoch press can be seen as a fit and proper organisation to own and run media out lets in the country.

The footballing aspect of this is that if we all dump Sky, then Sky dumps footbal what happens to the income to the clubs.

A number of high profile companies have already indicated that they will not advertise in the papers any more. Evebn with this hanging over them the Sun hid the story away on the inside pages and the times although it ran the story on the front page played it down more that the other papers. So much for a free press!

The only publication I would miss for acurate reporting would be the Times the rest of the Murdoch press are rubish at getting their fact right any way.

Murdoch Fox News and News international is a propaganda machine.............. He has our politicians in his pocket.... Evil evil man

Typical knee jerk reactionary response from people in our country! Lets kick a successful company that employs thousands of people and pays millions in corporation tax each year into the exchequer! We as a nation buy their papers in the millions, the Sun and NOW are the two biggest circulation newspapers in the country. We also pay the subscriptions for their TV boxes and yet we're soon quick to stick the boot in! Yes if the ALLEGED activities of systemic phone hacking are proven true then it's despicable and the people responsible will quite rightly get whats coming to them. But before we all reach for the moral high ground lets stop to consider that the only reason this is happening is to to feed our own insatiable appetite for scandal.

Its a bit rich for our politicians to be jumping on the bandwagon of protest when they have spent their political lives cosying up to the press of all kinds. Cameron even employed the former NOW editor who has been caught up in this scandal and had to resign. Are you really telling me that Cameron had no idea what his own press spin doctor was up to!

I've heard of people starting to hang around newsagents hounding customers into not buying the Times or the Sun! Last time I looked it was a free country and these papers haven't as yet been banned. The Murdoch press has ploughed Millions into domestic football since the advent of the Premier League. The football clubs are entirely to blame for the current climate of greed passed onto footballers who earn more in a week then most people do in 3 or 4 years!

We are so quick to instantly point the finger at others when we should be taking a cold hard look at how we contribute to this selfish, avarice filled and ugly society that we live in!

JWM - that is a fine, well thought out article! I suppose I already boycott Murdoch for the simple reason that I don't buy newspapers and I have a freeview + box that already gives me too many channels to choose from, so I don't subscribe to Sky.

You are absolutely right in your assessment of the desire for the 'gutter press'. It's much the same thing as 'rubber-neckers' causing chaos on motorways whilst passing a pile-up on the opposite carriageway!

So long as the turds who did the deed are dealt with, as far as I'm concerned, it's job done <ok>
