Our bins outside the factory are emptied at 5am or earlier every Thursday.
No problem for us. I expect those bin men are off home before 11am too though, lucky blighters.

Shell announcing all-time record profits, while British Gas employ thugs with warrants to break into poor people's homes and (in effect) cut them off.
And the thugs boast about how heartless they are and how much they enjoy their work.

What a wonderfully balanced society we live in <hug>

What sort of country are we where the poorest people pay a higher rate for energy than the rest of us? It's totally unacceptable, yet we accept it, because of the feeling which has come from the Murdochs of this country that if you're poor it's your own fault.

I've seen references all over the place to Shell paying little or no tax in the UK despite their profits, and even recieveing government subsidies.
    Horrible if true.

One of the electricians told me that the telecom gang used to cause problems which required them to work overtime to rectify. A malicious rumour I'm sure.
One week there I read East of Eden in a week without taking it home; it had 500 pages. We also had a part-time vicar in our gang who used to write his Sunday sermons in the rest room.

I know the press gets a lot of stick, and much of it deserved.
But I believe it was an undercover newspaper investigation that revealed the practice of force-fitting pre-pay meters in vulnerable people's homes, and the cruel enjoyment of their work among some contractors for British Gas.

A free press, for all its faults, is one of the most important pillars of our democratic society.

Almost everyone in Orpington reads the Daily Mail, and I wish they wouldn't take its opinions as gospel. You need more than one news source to get a balanced view. They are now going hammer and tongs for lower taxes, regardless of the Truss budget.

The ol' Currant Bun for sure.
But how did they get onto the story

I feel a bit sorry for Ms Sasha.
I bet she thought a Prince would be a bit more discreet about his liasons.
At least she isn't claiming to have had his baby <laugh>

She’s probably done very well out of it! I expect she’ll launch her own brand of “Gingers nuts” biscuits next

Noises at night caused by work on HS2

I saw a news report this morning about residents living near building work for HS2, complaining of loud noises coming from the construction sites in the early hours of the morning. Beyond feeling a bit sorry for those residents I didn't think much of it at the time.

I live about a mile from a site in West London where some roads were recently closed for work on HS2.
Just now I was woken by a pow-pitched droning sound coming from somewhere outside, the kind of which I've never heard before. After about 20 minutes it has faded. If it is from the HS2 workings and if it becomes a regular occurrence I am going to be complaining as well.
The HS2 contractors have claimed they aren't breaking any regulations.
But they have no right to wake up people trying to sleep in a radius of at least a mile from where they are working at nights.

I'm only assuming it's them at this point. But since I only read about this issue a day ago and I've never heard such a noise before, it strikes me as too much of a coincidence.

Nicola Sturgeon is resigning as First Minister in Scotland :emoticon-0104-surpr
Has a scandal of some kind caught up with her??

And Starmer says Corbyn will not stand at the next Election for Labour <applause>
    Quite right.
Let him get re-elected as an Independent, if he can.
I'll never be a fan of someone who counts Hamas among his friends.

Classic own goal by the Scottish Tories, appointing an unpopular referee as their political leader.
