Anything that grows the economy <ok>

Unlimited wealth for the masters of industry, grinding poverty for the workers.
    A Thatcherite wet dream.

It's being said that the Government's energy bill help for small businesses will equate to at 25% or 30% cut.
If that's true, it is nowhere near enough.

Many small firms are facing bill hikes of between 400% and over 1,000%

30% off 400% still leaves a price increase well over 250%.
And that's the best case scenario.

Small businesses cannot survive an energy price increase of 250%, let alone anything higher.
And no promise of what will happen after 6 months.
Thousands and thousands of small businesses will go under. Years of hard work ruined.
And still the mega-profits of Shell & BP are untouched.
£billions. And not one penny taken back.

    That is morally inexcusable.

And politically stupid. When the government says "High energy bills are a price worth paying" they seem to be unaware of the firms which will go under and the families who will be plunged into destitution. To their rich friends an extra few thousand on their bill is small change, that's who they must be referring to.

    Redistribution of wealth
    Levelling up
    We're all in this together

Three phrases you won't be hearing any more from this Government.
I'm all for standing against Putin's invasion of Ukraine, but Shell & BP should stand beside us, rather than rake in obscene profits.
And now we're back to the old "trickle down" economic mantra.
A few more crumbs from the table of the ultra rich lifts the poor masses a little bit out of poverty.
Well pardon me if I don't tug my forelock.

    By the way;

If Putin declares parts of Ukraine as now being Russia, and threatens nuclear retaliation if they are attacked,
the West should respond by making Free Ukraine a NATO member and building a new Iron Curtain across the border.
Then the threat cuts both ways.
But at least (as with North & South Korea) there will be peace on the border itself.
The Free Ukraine can be rebuilt and enjoy all the benefits of western trade connections.
And the 'new' parts of Russia can enjoy the indefinite isolation from those trade ties, and life under Putin's heel.

The very first political event I went to was in 1964, where Enoch Powell spoke for about 25 minutes without notes, explaining exactly, and in great detail, how trickle-down economics work to the benefit of everyone. Sadly time has proved that his marvellous eloquence was misguided, although he clearly believed it. It's not the pragmatic policy that he made out, it's ideologically based, especially now that it's been proven to fail.

    Note to Liz Truss and the new Chancellor;

Letting the Bank of England keep hiking interest rates will NOT help the economy to grow.
    It will deepen the recession.
Inflation (Stagflation in fact) is not rising because of traditional causes that high interest rates will fix.

I know almost nothing about economics, but I do know that.
Get a grip, the pair of you.

Some clarity on the need for Fracking:

Starting Fracking in the UK is for one purpose only:
To help protect this country from fuel import blackmail (or worse) by the Russians.
We are on a War footing now.
Damage to the environment and the danger of earthquakes and water table pollution are issues that will have to be tackled down the line.
We cannot have power cuts and vulnerable people freezing to death this winter, or any winter.
Until the threat of Putin is removed, that's the way it has to be.

I'm also reading that the benefits of fracking are minimal, and are a long way off. Also that renewable energy is much much cheaper to produce.

    The more the merrier.

    Fracking, renewables, nuclear.
Along with improvements in insulation and energy efficiency.
We need to be energy self-sufficient.

I read that renewables (on shore wind farms for example) are around 8 times cheaper, could be up and running in 6 months, and damage nothing. Anything that comes from fracking will be sold on the international markets, so the cost will be the same as whatever level the energy firms put it, so it will still be expensive. The guy who is now chancellor said back in april there is no credible reason for fracking - its polluting, may cause earthquakes, will dirty the water table and will take years to get online.

Everyone should read Private Eye. But almost everyone in Orpington reads nothing but the Daily Mail, so they all hate Meghan Markle, think Brexit is a huge success, Boris is still wonderful, but not as wonderful as brave Liz, who is standing up to China, and Putin, climate change is nothing to worry abahrt, and if Labour gets in it's armageddon etc etc etc........................

I'd be happier if the Government nationalised the UK Fracking industry, and re-nationalised the Nuclear, Grid & Gas suppliers.
No more of this wholesale market nonsense.
Supply UK households at cost. Not obscene profit margins.
Profiteers are the enemy as well when the country is on a War footing.

Today's budget gave proof that the real aim of Brexit was to create a low-wage low-tax economy.
The market has given the budget the thumbs down, as the pound tanks.

Oh well, at least it's party time for the richest 5% - again :emoticon-0164-cash::emoticon-0164-cash::emoticon-0164-cash:

    Tax cuts.png

    And down goes the Pound...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63030208

Oil, gas and all other imports getting more and more expensive, pushing up inflation.
Not a problem for that richest 5% though.
