    Blimey you're a bloodthirsty lot :emoticon-0104-surpr

Interesting that (as far as I know) there are no huge military parades through Capital cities in Western Europe to mark the end of WW2.
Peace was the prize <peacedove> And you don't celebrate peace with thousands of tanks and missiles and a lot of goose-stepping.

And the Western Allies also value the victory of freedom over tyranny.
Whereas in the old USSR and in Putin's Russia, they celebrate the victory of their brand of tyranny over that of Hitler.
Never quite on the same page, were we.

He claims to believe in standards in public life, but his actions don't back that up.

It seems lockdown rules were only for the plebs after all.
Party leaders and their entourages were above all that.

Sir Keir Starmer says he will resign if Durham Police issue him with a fine for breaking COVID rules.
That would be the right thing to do.

But I believe Starmer stated that Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak should resign simply because they were under investigation.
This was before they were fined.

In my view Sir Keir should retract that remark and apologise for it, if he is not willing to resign himself simply for being investigated.
If he maintains that Johnson and Sunak should resign because they have been found to have broken the rules, I still agree with that.
And if he himself resigns, he will have shown he is a more honourable man than the Prime Minister and the Chancellor.

Pedantic commentators and other gossip-mongers with nothing else to do have started picking apart what Keir Starmer said about resigning.

"What if Durham Police say he broke lockdown rules but don't issue him with a fine?" they ask, as if it isn't a stupid question.
"He'll be in an impossible position..." etc.

Starmer's statement was one of principle.
He did not have to make it legally watertight or media fool-proof.

If the Police say he broke lockdown rules he will resign of course.
Any possible lack of fine would be a technical loophole which, if used, would render his earlier statement meaningless.
    Give the man some credit.
He is not (unlike the Prime Minister) a serial liar.

A few weeks before local council elections we were told the refugee deportations to Rwanda would begin pretty soon.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61382752

Now less than a week after the local elections we hear a somewhat different story.

IMO it was never intended to work, it is all about having a public fight with "woke" left wing lawyers, to keep the culture war bubbling along nicely.

It would be very Labour if it was the Corbynistas who went to the Daily Mail with incriminating evidence against Sir Keir.

    Beyond belief; <doh>

Tory MP says people should learn to cook, then they can live on meals costing 30p per day
while praising a "real food bank" opening in his constituency...

Posting on his Facebook page following the criticism, Mr Anderson said: "I did not say poor people can not cook or there is no need for food banks.
"I said there is not the need currently being parroted out by the
    MSM (mainstream media)."

Parroted out by the MSM. He actually said that. Give me strength. That's pure Trumpite mantra.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61414951

Meanwhile a Tory Mayor in Kent posed for pictures while cutting a ribbon to mark the opening of a food bank.
For f**k sake, it isn't a new swimming pool or community library.
Is that twat proud of a food bank opening on his doorstep? Does he think that reflects well on his party?

    Cutting a ribbon? :emoticon-0121-angry

These heartless bastards actually want to celebrate bringing back grinding poverty for millions.
It's like the Good old days their great grandparents remember, when the poor knew their place.

The freedom pass was introduced in 1973, when Boris was 9. He's also been claiming that the government didn't know about asymptomatic transmission in the early stages of the pandemic, which is another untruth. He was discussing bit with Sir Patrick publicly, and was warned by SAGE, it's all on the record.

The Met Police have just issued 50 more fixed penalties from their Downing Street 'partygate' investigation...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61422144

That brings the total to over 100 fines issued.
Staggering, when the Prime Minister assured the Commons that lockdown rules were observed at all times.
If that was supposedly so, why doesn't even one of the recipients of these fines use their right to challenge it in court?

Fines issued by Durham Police to Labour members over 'beergate' so far = 0

Sorry Jamie and your well-meaning well-to-do chums...

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61449921

...but millions of poor folk have to live in the real world.
Two-for-One deals on the cheapest food - even turkey twizzlers - makes the difference between their kids eating or going hungry.

Healthy food is not an option for them - it's too expensive.
Neither do they have time to prepare and cook meals from scratch.
Many are single parents who work all hours, and their gas & electric bills are too high.
Four or five minutes heating food in a microwave costs a lot less than spending an hour cooking stuff in an oven or on a hob.
People in poverty have to eat something.

Can't agree with this. Cooking from scratch doesn't have to be time-consuming or expensive. I find it cheaper than prepared meals, and most supermarkets have dropped the price of fresh vegetables right down now in order to compete with Lidl. Instead of two-for-one the supermarkets could just halve the price of prepared meals. Food which is high in salt, fat and sugar is addictive, the supermarkets know this, and that's why they promote it.

Great letter to TheTimes today, suggesting that since some MP's believe you can eat for 30p per meal, their subsistence allowance should be reduced from £25 per day to 90p per day.

Last week Sergey Lavrov, Russia's lugubrious foreign minister said that Hitler was Jewish, causing Putin to have to apologise to Israel. Lavrov hasn't been seen since- is he still alive?

I've heard that some of the nutters in the Russian Parliament want the Steel Works fighters to be tried as War Criminals.
    Let them go ahead.
Such a move would steel the resolve of every Ukrainian fighter never to surrender to Russian forces.

The smart move would be to swap those brave men for some of their own sorry troops in a POW exchange.
If Russia starts humiliating and mistreating those fighters, they will only be making things worse for themselves.
