These pictures, released today, show how the skyline of South Bristol will change if Bristol City's plans to rebuild Ashton Gate are realised.

Planning officers are recommending approval for the application to turn the stadium into a 27,000-seater ground, something councillors will vote on next week (November 27).

Images released today show how the new Ashton Gate would look from different vantage points across Bristol.

The new-look 27,000-seater Ashton Gate in Bristol. Could anyone seriously object to it?

Bristol has, unfortunately, earned itself a reputation as a city where it's hard to get a major development off the ground.

Bristol Rovers found this out in the past few weeks, even when you think you're about to give the bulldozers the green light to get going, someone can step in and object.

Getting planning permission seems like it's just the start of the battle, rather than the end.

Planning officers today recommended approval for Bristol City's bid to convert Ashton Gate into a modern 27,000-seater stadium.

The local councillors are in favour, there are hardly any objections from local people, and organisations like English Heritage have given the thumbs up.

This plan is far less controversial than the one to build a new ground in nearby Ashton Vale, and build a Sainsbury's on Ashton Gate

Surely nobody can get in the way. Surely.

Well, here are five possible objections some would say are typical of Bristol, which some have dubbed the biggest village in the UK, or "Lymeswold-on-Avon".

1 "I wanted a Sainsbury's. I saw a recipe for a spiced meringue Christmas wreath on their website and I want to be able to get all the ingredients in one place."

2 "When I lie on my back in Ashton Court on a summer's day, I like to be able to see the houses of Knowle West. The giant new Williams Stand will block the view."

3 "I run a solar-powered knitting group in Greville Smyth Park. We will have to move over towards the Cumberland Basin or the bigger stadium will put us in shadow, and I do so hate the sound of passing lorries."

4 "I note from the planning application that there is no provision for allotments along the side of the pitch. Please amend."

5 "This new stadium will put us on a par with other English cities, and signal a desire for progress. This cannot be allowed."

Planning offices have recommended approval for Bristol City's plans to rebuild their Ashton Gate stadium.

Councillors will meet next week, on November 27, to discuss the proposal for the club to rebuild on their current site.

If the plans went ahead City would be playing in a 27,000-seater stadium.

The club put the planning application in alongside moves to build a brand new stadium at nearby Ashton Vale.

It still looks like several architects cant agree on how they want it to look and have therefore designed a piece each.

The Atyeo Stand lets the overall look of the stadium down in my humble opinion. Why don't they just carry the roof from the Dolman and East End on over the Atyeo leaving the Grandstand as the stand out feature ?

Look at the feel good factor of the Olympics. How proud would all Bristolians be to have such a sporting venue in Town. Just like when you glimpse Croke Park in Dublin for the first time, or Twickenham, and think...wow, what a wonderful monolithic tribute to Sport and how GOOD must the team be that plays there.

I can't wait to be one of the 27,000 that will pack the first game. Everyone must go.

Looks like we're back to the old 3 sided ground again.
Is that so we can accommodate small boys hiding in the trees ?

<laugh> that made me laugh. sounds like the post are cheesed off with the nimbys and making fun of them!

congrats by the way, it looks good. if the nimbys/green party were sensible, they would stay away from these plans otherwise the backlash on them would be massive.

The article is tongue in cheek, which sadly makes all the more hard hitting - this is the perception of what Bristol's leadership wants

And that is to live forever in the year 1820

At least then hanging was legal and there were no extended trials or appeals................!

No picture of the Wedlock interior. Its almost like they have changed the design yet again and forgot to include it in the fans consulation.

Great it's already had 4 objections
One is for anti social behaviour
    One is for parking

Can someone tell these people, that there is already a ground there because they obviously don't realise.

As for asking what's the Wedlock going to look like Clifton, you do realise don't you if we moved to AV they wasn't taking that stand with them, <laugh>

Yes there was lots of detail to look at e.g South Stand. There was also a stadium architect report where the architect Micheal Trice unveiled a concept he called a visual and acoustic connection.

Now the Wedlock design? Detail? Not one picture released of what it looks like, or the thinking behind the design concept. Shall we balance that v Jon Lansdowns statements on consultation. When it comes to saying [lots] and doing [?] the club come across as serial bull ****ters.
