Very little to say about an extended night of so called entertainment during a 'blustery' night at HP.

First five minutes seemed bright enough until a few passes were misplaced and the team lost any idea of how to play, pass, or even show any enthusiasm. No movement in midfield or up front and no chances created, although Newport looked the more likely without really threatening Luke's goal. Much of the same for the second half - a few long range pot shots, all of which were high , wide and not very handsome. Sheridan eventually changed it with 20 mins left with Tyler Harvey replacing Hayes and AG on for Luke Young. Things improved a little and at least the team looked vaguely interested. The floodlights (or rather one floodlight) failed with 15 mins left which gave hope that the match might be abandoned but someone fixed it and the referee decided there should be 11mins additional time after the 90. We were never going to score.

    A few points.

1.Hayes is probably the worst player i have seen in an Argyle shirt (and there have been a few) I don't think I have seen him have a shot.
2.Blackman really struggled tonight and Alessandra was worse.
    3. The sponsors awarded the MOTM to Luke M- not entirely sure why, he probably made less mistakes than anyone else but didnt have much to do really. I would probably have given it to Maxine B.

All in all a woefully inadequate performance with little hope for the future- not sure what JS excuse will be this week but we played badly, hardly created a chance and totally lacked pace or the ability to see a pass.

No idea where we go from here but giving Tyler Harvey & AG a start cant be any worse than tonight's drivel.

Sorry i cant be any more positive, but for once I cant find any.

Fair enough shout there lyndhurst and I wish I could muster an argument but I can't. Highlight of the night was having an out and out goal scorer on the pitch which was good old Tommy T at halftime. Sign him on....

We, that is those around where I sit and my own little clique, decided that Sheridan should spend at least one half of football in the Stand or even sitting on my lap. We can all see perfectly well what is wrong because when viewed from any height and not pitchside it is obvious. There is no heart, no movement, no thought process in fact nothing going on in his team. The amount of times one player looked at another as if to say you go for it not me was stark. He would see that there are probably 3 maybe 4 players who give a s*** and the rest don;t look interested. He obviously can't see any of that from the dugout because he changes nothing, ever, for at least 75 minutes of every game. 5600 there tonight with a decent turn out from Newport. That says everything for me. Keep this rubbish up and that will soon be season ticket holders only.

There is something going on that needs explaining.......how can a team average 0.6 of a goal per match ???

Having read through pasoti thoughts on the match I feel completely deflated......there seems to be know good thing to be said for what is supposed to be a professional football team.......how can it get that bad.

Having checked out the GoS match summary....I can only assume that Chris Webb was watching another match other than the Plymouth v Newport one.

My neutral northern colleague so enjoyed the Portsmouth game that he went again last night.

He reports both sides and the game were awful, being content to launch the ball over the heads of midfield most of the time, which is odd as it seems both sides had 5 in midfield.

So much for that independent endorsement........

Lyndhurst you say Hayes is the worse player you have seen in Green? What about that lump we had from America? can't even remember his name and that was in the Championship days.. a long time ago it seems!

Some thing needs to be sorted or play the kids... bring back Chadwick!!

Wasn't it Cooper joe? Hayes is just pretty much non existant in the game. Runs about a lot but that is all he does and it's seldom in the direction of the ball or goal. Reid may not score but he brings something to the game at least. I think he should give Harvey a minimum of 3 full matches and not do this 15 minutes a game thing. What has Sheridan got to lose.

Therein lies the conundrum notdistant. I too thoroughly enjoyed the Portsmouth match and both of those looked good in that match. Passed the ball and looked dangerous throughout. How they can look that good in one game and then look so bad in the next 3 is beyond me. Problem is they look bad in more than they look good.

ah.. i forgot about him-probably on a par with Hayes so far. Cooper was an 'exotic' signing though so at least there was some added interest- Hayes just doesn't add or do anything.

One of the little nuggets I did spot when I saw the Newport team-sheet on the PAFC website was that they played 3:5:2. Portsmouth played 4:4:2 to start and the Portsmouth manager said after the game that they'd done better in the 2nd half because they'd got to grips with Argyle's tactics.

Did Newport & Argyle cancel each other out? Do Newport normally play 5 in midfield or did they do it to nullify Argyle? If it's the latter, the experiment against Portsmouth obviously worked but the benefit has been cancelled out already.

Fans often deride tactics and make it all an issue of individual players - or even just the striker(s). I'm going to shoot myself in the foot here, given I have said that in the long term changing the manager makes little difference 9 times out of 10, and say that short term, match by match, minute by minute, how the manager selects & organises his team does matter. Watch this space to see if Sheridan can come up with some tactical options that work.

I still don't understand why he brought in Morgan though.... What sort of a tactical system does he fit into?

A system stumbled upon by trying to stop Swindon ripping us to pieces and then we go and announce we are going to try it for a few games on the club website...priceless<laugh>

I appears to me that players were brought in without having a clear system in mind and it is more of a case of see what we can get and then come up with a plan rather than this is what we have, this is what we are going to do...... so this is what we need to get.

I must admit that does sound quite possible.......which if so creates a question mark against Sheridan as an experienced manager.
