Arsenal eye 11th-hour move for Newcastle target Yanga-Mbiwa 20 Jan 2013 22:32 Toon have already agreed a fee for versatile France defender â but they could lose him just like they lost Loic Remy to QPR! London or Newcastle? Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa of Montpellier faces a choice... Mike Hewitt Arsene Wenger is weighing up a last minute move for Newcastle target Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa. Newcastle have agreed a £6.7m fee with Montpellier for the versatile French international defender who is due to fly over to discuss a move to St James' Park. But Gunners boss Wenger may yet move for Yanga-Mbiwa - and that could mean another last-minute blow for Newcastle who lost out on Loic Remy when QPR came in at the 11th hour. Yanga-Mbiwa, 23, is highly rated in France and can play right back, centre back and also operate as a holding midfielder. Arsenal have been scouting Yanga-Mbiwa for nearly a year and they have been checking on him to see whether he would be suitable to come in to compete with Carl Jenkinson next season with Bacary Sagna likely to leave next summer. Wenger has also wanted a versatile defender and Yanga-Mbiwa is also seen as having potential to be first choice in the French national team as centre half. But it is understood Arsenal have some reservations about Yanga-Mbiwa and now they must decide quickly - or lose out altogether. Newcastle have made the first move and stolen a march on AC Milan who were also keen and boss Alan Pardew is hopeful of getting his man. They moved in to snap him up as a replacement for Fabricio Coloccini, 30, as the Argentine international wants to return home for what Pardew describes as "personal reasons." Pardew has not given up on persuading him to stay but sees Yanga-Mbiwa as the perfect solution to his defensive problems.

Interesting couple of days ahead for them considering this and Colo's deadline. Personally I hope they get him.
Therte's a rumour doing the Facebook rounds that Pardew has been sacked - probably bullshit but I saw it this morning - will try to find it to copy and paste the source!
All good mate it didn't bother me at all I was born and raised in Sunderland I just moved over here with all the gob ****es for work.
He has been sacked and they have went for either Howard wilkinson or 'big' Ron atkinson 'two of Englands finest managers' they will bring champions league, err championship football back is one quote from a Newcastle supporter and Harry redknapp is in for Mbiwa as i speak; the 300 th player in January he is after.
If I weren't a fan I'd laugh. As it is, I am probably about to cry . I should have chosen better as a lad.
I had no choice when I was a lad (as my lad had no choice either - and has the same dislike for you lot as I do!!) I'm in an OK place at the minute - pretty happy with the way our club is going! but you're right QWOP, you should've chosen better. You should come on over, the red and white water is nice and warm at the minute
YOU don't choose your team mate others do that for you, don't worry we'll be kicking our own arses sometime soon then it'll be you lot laughing at us it's the North East way.
