Newcastle will receive just £5m for Ba as it emerges Liverpool and Arsenal target will pick up whopping £2.5m cut of clause fee Alan Pardew's hopes of persuading Demba Ba to ditch his release clause look doomed after it emerged the Newcastle striker stands to pocket an incredible £2.5million from it. Angered by the constant speculation caused by the £7.5m exit clause in Baâs contract, Pardew challenged him to drop it and negotiate a new deal or be put up for sale. The ultimatum looks like having only one outcome, following news of the windfall awaiting Newcastleâs top scorer once the contractual agreement kicks in. Anyone offering the stipulated amount will not only land one of the Barclays Premier Leagueâs most accomplished finishers but make him £2.5m richer, according to The Sun, with just £5m going to Newcastle. Sign up or leave: Alan Pardew wants to rid Demba Ba or his £7.5million transfer clause It is a nightmare scenario for Pardew, who already feared he would be ill-equipped to recruit an adequate replacement with £7.5m at his disposal. With the figure trimmed to £5m, he will find it even harder to fill the boots of the Senegal marksman, who now seems certain to be heading out of Tyneside when the window opens next week. Ba has stubbornly resisted all efforts to draw him to the negotiating table, and the reasons why are now evident after it transpired a third of the fee will go directly to him. A free transfer from West Ham 18 months ago, the 11-goal marksman has attracted strong interest from Arsenal, QPR, Liverpool and Paris St Germain, who will all be alerted to a development that signals his imminent departure. The 27-year old is thought to favour a move to The Emirates, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reservations over his £80,000-a-week wage demands, particularly given the knee problems that deterred other clubs from moving for him when he arrived from the Bundesliga. Final plea: Newcastle boss Pardew doesn't want Ba's transfer situation to drag on Wenger has not ruled out a third spell at the club for Thierry Henry despite being linked with the Newcastle striker as well as Barcelona's David Villa. New York Red Bulls striker Henry reported for training with the Gunners today during the MLS close-season. 'Iâve not lost interest in him,' said Wenger when asked about the Arsenal record scorer. 'Heâs still coming today to practice with us. We are very close but at the moment, I think he has had a second spell at the Club that was very successful. You have to be cautious that itâs not one time too many. I have not completely ruled it out but I havenât spoken about it with him at all.' Wenger added: 'I like Demba Ba, yes, but I donât think this is the right place to speak about that, because he plays against us tomorrow. I wouldnât like to put Newcastle or us or him in an uncomfortable position. If you ask me "Do we sign Demba Ba?" I say no.' Pardew is already making plans for life without Ba and is lining up a move for Marseilleâs Loic Remy. In demand: Ba is wanted by a host of top European suitors including Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain However, Pardew is trying to remain confident the player is happy to stay in the North East, but will not allow the speculation to drag on until summer. The 51-year-old said: 'Really and truly this window is the key, I think, because if Demba goes in this window, it will cause us a problem. 'I think he will stay, but there's a possibility he could go because of the clause that's still in force. In the summer, I won't let it run until the summer. I'll do something about it. 'We will either move Demba on or we will secure him in the summer.' the guy sounds like another Bent, good striker though, fancy SUNLUND SON
They knew the situation from the start so can have no complaints. My mate reckons Chelski will offer him a daft wage. But Ba may want to go to the team he supported as a kid. The 27-year-old is reportedly being chased by Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and QPR, who are all looking to take advantage of his £7million release clause in the January transfer window. But the Senagalese forward has reaffirmed his desire to move to rich French side PSG. ‘I look at PSG as a fan, as a supporter,’ he said. ‘I have never concealed my attraction to the club as a fan, which I have been since I was little.’ The Hoops were the latest club to show their interest but it now seems their new coach Harry Redknapp is unlikely to get his man. The Gunners were also thought to be keen but their interest has cooled recently. Chelsea are monitoring Ba’s situation, according to reports, but it seems the forward is dead set on a move to France. ‘Now they (PSG) are doing big and important things, and have big plans for the future,’ he added. ‘Of course I’d like to play in the colours of a team I support.’
Unfortunately Roger thatâs a £5m profit for them; the profit will be offset however with the fee required to replace him.
For a striker that cost us nowt, losing him for next to nowt and all the goals he's score... it's been a good deal.
Exactly. For all we knew, his knee could have gone bang!! There would have been clauses on our part too. None of us expected him to do as well as we did. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
He has been a superb signing and I put my hand up regarding his fitness. I never doubted the lads ability - his WHU record told me he could score goals - but I honestly thought he would have broken down by now as both WHU & Stoke City failed him a medical. This is NCL's problem and its a massive one. Where will they find 15 to 20 goals a season striker after he has left, with the £5m they may or may not get from Ashley to do it? Ashley may say they have the 2 Ameobi brothers and Ben Arfa that could fill in that role Cisse may step up in his absence but its a gamble as he doesn't look the same player to me this season. Losing Bent in the January transfer window cost us our momentum, cutting edge and ultimately Bruce his job after a terrible run to the end of the campaign. If NCL's results/form took a tumble from the position they are now, they may yet find themselves pulled in to the relegation dog fight. We only survived due to our first half of the season good form.
I think he'll go to a club who can afford to take the financial gamble. Ba will want a hefty wage hike on what he's currently getting, and obviously add the transfer fee. He is a hell of a goalscorer but the fact remains he has a degenerative knee condition which could cut his career short. Why did no one take him in the summer, when he was available at the exact same fee?
£5m is hurtful for a player of that calibre. They do however have Cisse waiting in the wings (literally) and if he steps up and shows the ability and form that he did last year they just need a second choice striker which they can get for £5m.
Ba will go, and be replaced by Danny Graham. Arguably they will have a better balanced strikeforce. Not better individually, but better as a whole.
Not a great goalscorer mate, but he really opens up space, meaning a player like Cisse could have it made.
