It'll be as **** as the Burnley game last season, 2 **** sides stinking the place out. At least I'll not be freezing my nuts off this time
I like Welshies idea on a previous thread of switching the midfield round for this and giving Hendricks a go in the middle I would go with the following: Darlow Manquillo Schar Fernandez Lascelles Lewis Almiron Hendricks Fraser St Maximin Wilson Set up as a 5-3-1-1 and with Schar stepping into the midfield holding role as required, when Hendricks moves forward. Give St Maximin free reign to do what he wants (as he will do that anyway).
4 2 3 1 Darlow Manquillo Schar Lacelles Lewis Hayden Longstaff Murphy Almiron Maximin Wilson I hate schar in DM and I'm not impressed with Fraser so far and Fernandez has been poor for a while. Almiron has to play on the left... Maximin says his best position is through the middle.. and I agree.. Murphy is the best option for the right. It's all about what's natural
Yes I just noticed we seem to play better with hayden and sean there... It really is about finding players that can play together and putting them on their natural positions... Bruce has no ****ing idea whatsoever...
I think it'll be Hayden/Hendrick for Burnley. I'd probably go with Joe left, Almiron right and Max middle behind WIlson. No point getting byline crosses over, Wilson vs Takowski is a bit pointless. Drop Fernandez for Schar which offers a good creative outlet in defence, also why I'd probably keep Hayden as he can naturally drop in if Schar heads forward. That XI, with Murphy, Fraser, Longstaff, Fede all on the bench isn't a relegation side.
Almiron struggles on the right.. Went through this half of last season.... Then he moved left and boom goals and assists came.... Bruce never noticed the connection or he's just forgotten
Fair enough - plus Max can't be 100%, so we should go Joe, Almiron, Murphy (left to right) behind Wilson. Max can sub into the middle, Almiron left and either Joe or Murphy on the right, depending on performance.
I'm hoping max was just rested. He was in contention vs spurs, but Bruce to his credit has rested him, but yes that's the right balance... I'd rather go Murphy on the right and use Joe a a sub along with Fraser... Its bewildering how Bruce is failing to max and almiron on the pitch... Just play 3 behind Wilson and we have options but because he's insisting on 4 4 2 it's making our this summers transfer window pointless
From the Guardian: "Less excitable Newcastle fans have long been taunted for having notions above their station; accusations they have countered with the retort that they just want a team they can be proud of. It is an argument The Fiver has always greeted with a fair degree of scepticism, but having witnessed three of their recent games – a slaughter at the hands of Brighton, a preposterously lucky draw against Spurs and an unseemly scramble over the line in the Rumbelows Cup against Newport County – we’re finally coming around to their way of thinking. For a team that has lost just one of the six matches they have played so far this season, Newcastle are truly painful to watch. “I agree, fully, that we didn’t play well enough,” cheered fan favourite Bernard Cribbins, when it was put to him his team had struggled in the face of weak opposition. “All of a sudden now, it’s questioning tactics. I just find the whole thing disappointing.” The tactics in question – sitting back, inviting pressure and hoping for the best against a range of teams across various divisions from the top flight down to League Two – have consistently failed to endear Cribbins to fans still pining for the ... erm, famously expansive, free-flowing and swashbuckling style of his predecessor Rafa Benítez. With the mouthwatering prospect of a thriller against [Fiver checks notes] Burnley to come on Saturday, there is at least some small consolation to be gleaned from the fact that they won’t be able to go and watch it."
It's going to be such a weight off when we finally clamber out of the grave Ashley has put the club in.
The only plausible reason to play Carroll would be to counter their threat at corners and free kicks! We have plenty of big defenders though. Way to play Burnley is keep it on the floor and use the speed we have in St Maximin, Almiron and Fraser. If we try and play hoofball we will lose. They are much better at it than we are.
Anyway Bruce has got a habit of getting a result when he's on the brink..let's hope he's played a blinder and he's going to surprise dyche with a 4 2 3 1.. We need a result.. Howay the lads.. Howay Brucey.
