Unsurprisingly, Rangers have struggled on the road in recent years in the top flight, picking up just one point from their last 10 Premier League away matches (D1 L9). However, this is a different QPR these days and Harry Redknapp will be very confident that his highly motivated charges can come away with all three points tomorrow. Redknappâs QPR head to the North East in confident mood â and almost 2,000 fans are expected to travel from west London. The Magpies have won five and lost none of the last six Premier League meetings with QPR. In those six meetings, QPR have opened the scoring on three occasions and lost all three, while failing to net in the other three matches. Alan Pardew`s side are enjoying their best form for a long time, winning their last five in all competitions and will see QPR at home as an excellent opportunity to extend their winning run. However, I expect they will be very wary of the Austin/Zamora combination that has troubled the likes of Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool in recent weeks. Charlie Austin, who narrowly missed out on a place in the England squad, will be chomping at the bit to continue his fine scoring streak. Austin has adapted remarkably quickly to life in the Premier League and his confidence must be sky high right now. The R`s number nine has already scored six goals in his first 10 PL appearances, which is more than what Les Ferdinand (4), Bradley Allen (5) and Kevin Gallen (2) managed in their first 10 games in the Premier League. On the injury front, Rangers have no fresh concerns, with Ale Faurlin (knee) the only assumed absentee. However, there are a number of question marks over players in the Newcastle camp. Midfielder Mehdi Abeid (toe) could be sidelined for several weeks. Late checks, meanwhile, will be carried out on Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor (both calf). Jonas Gutierrez, who has recently undergone treatment for testicular cancer, and Davide Santon (knee) are both out. please log in to view this image Possible Starting Xl's please log in to view this image - - - please log in to view this image PRE-MATCH TALK - NEWCASTLE V QPR QPRâs former Newcastle midfielder, Joey Barton: âWe always knew it was going to be a long season.'' âThere was pressure on us because our [away] performances werenât good enough â people were rightly upset, none more so than us as a group.'' âYouâve got to say that the level of performance has gone up. I'm sorry Kiwi, I tried to find something more exciting but couldn't find anything relevant. There is only a limited amount of famous female QPR fans out there other than the old Louise Redknapp of last season. You can have a go at the next game v Leicester match day thread if you like. See if you can do better. You're more than welcome. In fact, if anyone wants to have a crack at doing a MD thread then please PM me. I'll be more than glad to relinquish the task.
Here you go Kiwi to get you up for the match - a close call, but definitely no nipples showing! http://youtu.be/A9eas4H5tDA?t=1m4s
Former QPR striker and now Head of Football Operations expects QPR to give Magpies a tough game ⦠LES FERDINAND is looking forward to seeing two clubs he played for go head-to-head this weekend. please log in to view this image QPR take on Newcastle United at St Jamesâ Park, and both sides go into the game on the back of a recent up-turn in form. The Magpies have won their last four Premier League outings to rise to eighth in the table, while Rangers have collected four points from difficult fixtures against Liverpool, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Manchester City. QPRâs improved displays have coincided with Ferdinandâs return to the club as Head of Football Operations, but the former Râs frontman was quick to point out thatâs nothing to do with him. âI canât take responsibility for that!â he said. âThe manager, coaching staff and team deserve the credit for that. âWe didnât start the season too well but the last four games have shown the sort of performances weâre capable of. If we can maintain that level we will have a good chance of staying in this division. âNewcastle have hit form, and weâve hit form as well. We need to maintain that.â After a difficult start to the campaign for Alan Pardew, the Newcastle boss has seen a dramatic improvement in results to take the team to within touching distance of the top four. âAlan Pardew deserves a lot of credit,â Ferdinand said. âI know early on in the season there was a lot of talk about his future, but the chairman has stuck with him and now they are starting to get the results they want. âBut if we can continue to play the way weâve been playing recently, then I think Newcastle will be in for a tough game.â Ferdinand joined Newcastle in 1995 after eight years at Loftus Road. He spent two seasons at St Jamesâ Park, and knows better than most the level of expectancy within the Geordie fanbase. âThereâs a lot of pressure when you are playing for Newcastle,â he said. âThey see themselves as a top-ten side, and they want to finish as high as they can, perhaps looking at those Champions League places. If you get it right there, itâs a special place.â QPRâs target this season is to retain their top-flight status. Harry Redknappâs side are currently in the relegation zone, but Ferdinand said itâs important that the fans donât panic. âI believe we can stay up, and thatâs certainly the hope,â he said. âAny team that comes up from the Championship, your first target is 17th. Of course, you all want to do better than that, but thatâs your first aim as a newly-promoted club. That would be good enough. And then you build from there. âItâs about staying in this division. We need to get out of the bottom three, and the sooner the better. But letâs not panic. âThe table is very tight and no-one is getting away from us. If we can continue to perform as we have been recently, I strongly believe weâll give ourselves the best opportunity of staying in this division.â http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/les-ferdinand-qpr-premier-league-newcastle-united-2095811.aspx?
