Rubbish effort by Saints Twitter to report. Newcastle have a match report for first half at http://www.nufc.co.uk/page/Match/Report/ReservesReport/0,,10278~2919074,00.html 0-0 so far
'Sam McQueen has fired Southampton U21s ahead against Newcastle U21's after 51 mins with a great strike from 18 yards'
@NUFCOfficial: Sammy Ameobi played 90 minutes but #NUFC U21s have lost 1-0 to Southampton tonight. Full report on http://t.co/uUsHW10N
Jack Cork ‏@jackcork1 'Good run out for the 21s against newcastle tonight, first 90 for a while. Good win for the lads now time for a nice 7 hour journey back.'
I loved the way the Newcastle site inferred that Olympic selection Jack Cork was in the side [and a possible excuse for why Toon lost]. They actually lost to a better U21 [or Reserve side, as they referred to it], and that's all.
The NUFCTV interviewer talking with their Captain and Coach make all sorts of excuses but reluctantly describe McQueen's goal as spectacular, unstoppable, great goal. My brother was up watching the game, cost him £3. Said the goal was a beauty from outside the box into the top corner. However they have no video and the photos look like they concentrated mainly at the Saints goal end. No photo of McQueen never mind the goal. See http://www.nufc.co.uk/page/News/Gallery/0,,10278~2919258,00.html for the photos. The U21 are now top of their group and play Spurs at St Mary's on the 24th. Be a good chance to see the youngsters in action v a decent side. Hope Saints only charge £3.
