Newcastle United have identified the latest player they want to join the French contingent at St James Park with Auxerre midfielder, Steeven Langil, being targeted by the Premier League side.

The Magpies have had some considerable success in finding hidden gems within the French leagues in recent years, with much of that down to chief scout, Graham Carr, and his scouting network in the region.

The likes of Yohan Cabaye, Cheick Tiote, Massaido Haidara and Sylvain Marveaux have all been plucked out of obscurity by Carr and endured success on Tyneside. The club is filled with French nationals and Langil could join Mathieu Debuchy, Gabriel Obertan, Romain Amalfitano, Moussa Sissoko, Hatem Ben Arfa and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa at Sports Direct Stadium.

Langil is out of contract in the summer and would be available to Alan Pardew on a free transfer. The 25 year old featured sparingly for Auxerre this season and is deemed surplus to requirements at the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps. A loan spell at Caen two years ago, where he scored nine goals in 35 appearances, may convince the Magpies to snap him up.

Pardew will be looking to shake things up a bit in the summer, after seeing his side struggle throughout the season, finishing the campaign in an disappointing 16th place in the Barclays Premier League table.

This article is full of lazy journo cliches of NUFC's French contingent. Getting boring now.

Quick, sign him up. Because players on the fringe of things in Ligue2 is exactly the level we should be aiming at. Just look at the impact of Romain Almat...Amastif...Amlafriano....

I think the name you're looking for is ImafatTino (but without the skill).
