Dead-wood needing to be off-loaded by NUFC this summer.

This is according to Caught offside !!!!

    Leon Best

With the departure of Andy Carroll to Liverpool, much is expected of Best to fill the shoes of the big man. Granted, judgement should be left until the end of the season but he is only ever been a Championship player and will he be able to make the step up? If Newcastle want to be challenging for Europe a better striker than Best is needed.

    Alan Smith

Ok, so is he a striker who cannot score or a holding midfielder who cannot tackle? A dramatic fall from grace from being an idol at Leeds to struggling to get a first-team place at St. James’ has not been helped by injury. But with the emergence of Cheik Tiote and Hatem Ben Arfa still to include, Smith’s position is clearly under threat.

    Sol Campbell

The man is a legend. A towering centre-back who dominated in the air and could cover as much ground as any striker around. The only problem – that was 10 years ago. Newcastle have plenty of defensive options without relying on the former Tottenham and Arsenal man. A player-coaching role could suit him, if not, I hear Arsene Wenger is looking for a centre-back.

    Ryan Taylor

Yes he has scored some stunning goals but as a defender you have to be able to defend. Too many questions hang over Taylor’s head about whether he is Premier League class. He performed well in Newcastle’s push for promotion but has only played four games this season. This shows if the manager has doubts, he must be dodgy.

    Wayne Routledge

Why does he always get sent out on-loan? Does he still need experience? Or does he need to learn how to cross the ball? If you agree with the latter it shows what an average player Routledge is. A winger needs to be able to cross or have express pace. Routledge has neither. Newcastle sent him back to QPR and they should see if Neil Warnock wants to keep him.

I think we should keep Best as back up. He hasn't done too much wrong since Carroll left and I've been impressed with his effort and commitment rate. Although if someone offers around 2m , I would accept.

  3. I'd keep Leon Best. 5 goals in 7 games!

The rest, apart from maybe Routledge, i agree we should get rid.

    This is all bullshit
Best been very good this season, it's way too harsh on Smith (although he does need to go), sol cambell fair enough, Ryan Taylor is a good standard if we're gona use him as cover and Routledge is probably gona leave but I wouldn't call him deadwood

    Absolute ****.

Best is our BEST striker. He offers so much more than Ameobi and Lover. Keep as 3rd choice in my opinion, I rate him, has potential to be a good quality Premier League striker. Has good pace, good mobility, two very good feet, his work-rate is very good and can win headers(not as much as Carroll and Ameobi, but still respectable).

    Not Moaning wood?

To keep on topic, I'd keep Raylor because he can fill in at RB or RMF.

Pays to have a utility man on occasions.

Shockingly, its a load of **** from talksport again.

Best: 5 goals in 7, and like it or not he's the best striker currently at the club
Raylor: Great cover, and the reason they cite is because Hughton didnt play him. Anyone else see the flaw? Also he's been injured for a couple of months anyway, couldnt have played.
Routledge: We dont have the squad depth to sell him unless he is replaced.

Smith is ok if he would only take a wage cut, but failing that we can spend his rumoured 60k a week better. Campbell should just see his contract out then we can use Kadar as 4th choice or get someone on loan until he's ready (One Size?).

    Routledge is pretty nippy!

I'd say keep Best and Routledge (unless he wants to leave).

I would keep Leon Best as a backup to whatever we bring in, in the summer (if indeed we do)

    The rest I agree with.

Smith is awful and a blatant liability whenever he comes onto the pitch
Raylor, the post is correct he cannot defend and is also quite poor going forward, puts in the occasional good cross and stunning free kick, but is that enough to warrant a place in the squad really?
Routledge, cant cut it in the premier league it was obvious, I would move him on but once again we must either bring Kazenga back or get in some decent cover for Barton.
Campbell, has looked awful this season and past it, we have Steven Taylor who is decent cover for Williamson and Colo (who should be our main two IMO) and Campbell is surely only hampering the progress of the highly rated Tamas Kadar.

I would probably add Lovenkrands and Xisco to the list, possibly Guthrie, but only if people of greater quality are brought in.

surprised no one else has mentioned getting rid of him he'd be the first i'd have out the door.I can see us stuck with him till his contract runs out doubt if even a CCC side would have him.rather have raylor than him.

Your having a laugh, did you watch the wigan game? perch was to blame for both of n'sosmias goals, got in the way of williamson for the first one and was half way up the pitch for the second one, some of the worst defending that i have ever seen

Raylor might not be as good if they are both with their man, but he has a bit of experience and at least stays in position while offering something going forward as well.

Seems he's not interested in being a defender anymore, recent interview said he wants to play RM/RW and in his reserve comeback he played in a midfield 3.

Best would be worth keeping as back up. I wouldn't miss any of the others in that list, or Perch.
