    The Toon director of Football Joe Kinnear thought he had spotted a special talent when on a scouting trip to watch Birmingham's Capital One Cup tie against Swansea in September. Kinnear raved to City chiefs about midfielder Shane Ferguson during the game and when he asked about signing him, Brum bosses thought he was winding them up as Shane Ferguson was already a Newcastle player who is on loan to Birmingham.

    I'm unsure whether it's true, as the press have it in for Kinnear. He's no fool, except when it comes to pronouncing players' names.
