http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...em-and-Ivory-Coast-striker-Wilfried-Bony.html

"Newcastle, who hope the flurry of new players will stave off the threat of relegation, face a race against time to complete the signing of the 24-year-old who is playing for the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Vitesse Arnhem have said Bony can leave on the right terms, although the move may have to wait until the summer. Bony is top-scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie with 16 goals in 18 games.

Like Bony, Newcastle’s other signings this window – right-back Mathieu Debuchy, striker Yoann Gouffran, midfielder Moussa Sissoko and defenders Massadio Haidara and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – are French-speaking.

Bony’s agent has claimed interest in his player from Liverpool and Chelsea but it is Newcastle who have made the move. West Ham United are also interested but want to wait until the summer in order to lower the price tag."

Good acquisition if true, strong hold up play, pacey and a goalscorer, like Lukaku. Would be better for a better fee and a great choice to push Cisse.

Bony started his professional career at Issia Wazi in the Côte d'Ivoire Premier Division and played in the CAF Champions League.[citation needed] He scored 6 goals in 16 matches at the club. He was on trial at Liverpool in 2007 but was not offered a contract.

The money sounds about right, my estimate was between 10 and 15 million pounds, I wrote this on the Spurs board last week:

Here are two vids on Bony:

    Crap music, best to mute...

His nickname btw is Daddy Cool, cause of his hair...

Bony is the Drogba kind of player. Good technique, great vision and he can rip through a defense in a second. He is lethal in the box, he is extremely inventive and can score a goal when it looks like it's impossible to do. The only two problems he has is his speed, he just can't run effectively. He is unfit for counter football, one of the slowest strikers I've seen in a while. His second problem is his mentality. He can get carried away on the pitch at times and get himself into trouble, he has a bit of that African temper. But he is a very creative player, very consistent and he has a type of hunger for a goal that he still wants to score so badly, even when the team is 4 or 5 goals up he is still giving everything to score at least one goal a game.

But his greatest asset is his strength. The guy is insanely strong, I once saw three defenders trying to push him to the ground and they failed, he stayed up and managed to score. His stamina and endurance are incredible, he just never quits and chases the ball till the 95th minute if that is needed. In my January Transfer blog I rated him between 10 and 15 million pounds. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/180373-The-January-Transfer-Window?p=4021712&highlight=bony#post4021712

Hope this gives you an idea who Bony is.

Cove can give you the lowdown on this fella.

His goal scoring record looks very impressive indeed and he scored for a Ivory Coast ths week in he ACON, so he must know Tiote well.

    He's 24 years old, 6ft tall.

Scored 30 goals in 51 games for Vitesse in the Dutch league.
Previously at Sparta Prague where he scored 22 in 59 games.

Imagine a forward line of Bony and van Wolfswinkel <laugh>. I'd love to hear what Kammy has to say about that...

Cheers for the vids Cove. He looks immense. Big, strong, scores with either foot and even takes a mean pelanty, which is always useful to have in the team.

I really hope this is a serious bid and the deal goes ahead.

Like I said, 12 million pounds looks like a good start but it could go all the way up to 15, maybe even higher. I think he is ready for the EPL, but there is a big IF. IF Pardew is using him for counter attacking football, or in a 4-4-2 system with no AM or CF behind him then he is doomed. Bony is a great anchor up front and very ball secure, but he needs to be supplied with the ball aswell. Just don't leave him alone up front.

All Dutch media quoting Sunday Telegraph, no own content seen so far nor confirmation from Vitesse.
Today we got the Vitesse - Ajax game planned, likely to be some news released around that time.
