Newcastle switch attention to QPR ace after complications in move for Tottenham star NEWCASTLE will turn their attention to QPR winger Matt Phillips if they can't conclude a deal with Tottenham for Andros Townsend, according to reports. By Charlie Phillippe PUBLISHED: 22:19, Mon, Jan 18, 2016 | UPDATED: 22:28, Mon, Jan 18, 2016 please log in to view this image He had looked set for a move to Newcastle, who are looking to to add more fire-power to their squad before the end of this month. please log in to view this image But talks have stalled between the two clubs over Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's £14million valuation of the player. And the Telegraph claim Steve McClaren may turn his attention to Phillips if Townsend's asking price remains too high. Bournemouth, West Brom and Watford have all already expressed an interest in the midfielder, who is thought to be available for about £5m this month because QPR want to raise cash. The winger scored the Championship club's second goal in their 3-0 win against Rotherham on Saturday.
Phillips is the far better player IMO. Townsend has one trick, to cut inside, which everyone realised a couple of years ago. If they get anywhere near £14m it's a masterstroke by Levy
if we can sell matty phillips i wouldnt worry as long as we buy kumar roofe from oxford he is valued at 2 million has scored 15 goals and is a better player than phillips because he dosnt drift in and out of the team matty can be brilliant but can also be completely uninterested ROOFE IS A FUTURE TEN MILLION POUND PLAYER BUT GIVE HIM A FOUR YEAR CONTRACT NOT A THREE
Well Ted being a prospect at Oxford and getting past Championship defenders is I'm afraid a little bit different Yet you want to offer an idea a 4 year contract ... Not doing yourself any favours The best wide man or exciting midfielder in this league is my old mate Solly March who is crocked for the season and still getting 12m interest. Look where Brighton are without him? If we throw away Phillips then I can't see us getting anyone half as good Phillips is a key player for us If he goes then it won't matter if we had Messi in the team because without service goals won't happen from open play
Phillips a far better player? Disagree. He has also one trick which is to cross the ball at the earliest opportunity with mixed (and that's putting it kindly) success. His defensive contribution also leaves much to be desired. Agree with you that the £14 million price tag is inflated on Townsend, but he's still scored goals for England and Phillips had to pretend he was Scottish to earn a phenomenal 2 caps (in 2012). I'd take £5 million for Phillips any day of the week. To think we valued him at £10 million is laughable quite frankly. Gray from Birmingham leaving for £3.75 million means there is value out there to find a better and cheaper replacement.
and roofe is better than bowles and marsh put together, hes a fresh exiting tallent with 15 goals already and hers a midfield player so he looks like he will get thirty goals from midfield why is ferdinand so indecicive he should steam in there connor and roofe will fire us to the play offs
If bids for McCormack and Rhodes are 10 mill plus (I know it's a different position), I think 7+ is acceptable for Matty, he hasn't had the best season, nor has Rhodes though.
they were talking about this in godfreys the bakers, they said it would happen and it did wow wow wow im going to put a 500 pound bet that washington gets 30 goals this season
"Complications"?.......the only complication is that Ashley doesn't want to pay £14m......strange turn of phrase from this wannerbee journalist.... Whilst it would be a shame to see Phillips go, the club need to sell to meet FFP when that is eventually sorted out, not sure he would be that keen to go to Toon to be involved in another relegation struggle.....
